This auction is for a set of 6 Rare Vintage Kester Designed Flat Jack Drums. They were made by Reynolds RMC Co. in the 60's. The 6 sizes are 29" 29"23" 16" 14" 14" The drums are tunable. These drums have been in storage so they will need to be completely cleaned. They are sold as is so please look at all of the pictures to determine the condition for yourself. The metal has oxidation and tarnish and they need polishing. The heads are in rough shape so you will want to replace them. A couple of the drums have mufflers and a couple have clip mounts attached. Kester Flat Jack's Marching Bass Drum 28" with beater from 1960's
This is a Flat Jack's Marching Bass drum built by Ralph Kester. It spins and locks into either vertical or horizontal positions as you can see in the pictures. This drum was made between 1961 and 1965. It has a nice full sound and is easy to carry with the included harness. This is an extremely rare item as you will note if you do any searching through the vintage drum forums on the web. This is an absolute dream catch for the collector. But is still perfectly functional and could be put to active use for any marching or pep band. He was first mustered into service on June 30, 1861 as a 2nd Lt. in Captain James Montgomery's Company of the Commonwealth Artillery, to serve for three month's duty. He was stationed at Fort Delaware and was mustered out on August 5, 1861, but did not remain a civilian long and soon reenlisted in Trenton, New Jersey on August ... more20, 1861 for three years' service in the 1st New Jersey Cavalry, with the rank of Captain. Kester would serve actively in all cavalry campaigns of the Virginia theater during his service. Regarded as the brightest and quickest in action and intellect.
