Hotel Statler Silver Solder Tea Pot
Item is in fair condition with a couple small dents. Purr lip has A bend in it as you can see in pic. Very high quality and durable piece. I thought it was a pretty cool tea pot. It has the numbers 74 scribed in the side. I don't think this is the year it was made but can't be sure. The engraving of hotel Statler looks much older than the scribed numbers? Almost like its a anniversary item or hotel number maybe. Not sure. It really shines that's for sure. Hotel Statler was one of the earliest Hotel chains to date. First hotel was founded in 1901 and still in business today! The chain was also the first to put a bathroom inside each room. The letters"FEC" appear on the side. Its construction appears to be silver-plate cast-iron with silver solder. Unit is 5½” tall. Base is 3 3/8” wide. Weighs 1 pound 7 ounces. Unit is in good condition. Stereotypical dings and scratches associated with usage. Age, and storage. Hinge is solid and functional. The bottom inside surface is blackened as I think at one point in this units history. It was directly heated from the bottom. Also. These were used for melting lead and solder and years later by fishermen who repurposed them for melting lead and making sinkers. I'm not sure it's in working condition or not. Vintage Astor Hotel MUSCHENHEIM 12, Silver Solder Chocolate Pot, Teapot, Coffee
You are purchasing a bit of New York City history. This is a vintage. Antique silver soldered Muschenheim Chocolate Pot. I have also seen this style of pot referred to as a teapot or a coffee pot, but I believe it is correctly referred to as a chocolate pot. It is in what I consider to be beautiful, untouched condition. There is a dark patina, with a mottled, spotty look to the exterior. There is also green tarnish, primarily around the base. The hinge to the top is a little bent(not cracked or split) so the lid is a little loose and doesn't sit quite flush to the pot- although it is securely attached. The wooden handle is tightly pinned around what appears to be a metal and brass collar. The handle's wood is smooth from use, with some nicks and minor chips. The entire piece is solid- no cracks or damage. It stands about 8 1/4" ... moretall. The base is 4 3/4" in diameter, and the handle sticks out 6 1/2" It weighs just under 3 pounds. The stamped markings that I have been able to identify under a loupe are the number"12" both under the lid and on the base, 36 OZ" on the base, the word"Silver" on the bottom, and the word"MUSCHENHEIM" on the bottom. There are other markings on the base, but I am unable to identify them. I have seen other Muschenheim items for sale on the Internet, but they are almost always silverware. I have not been able to find any larger pieces, like this one. It was obviously made by Muschenheim. And I believe it was from/ used at the Astor Hotel in New York City. Although not evident from any of the stampings, I believe that the floral emblem on the outside of the pot is the mark of the Astor Hotel. The mark is worn, but it is clearly identifiable. The Astor was opened in 1904, was closed in 1967, and was demolished in 1968. Based on its appearance, design and function, I am guessing this piece is from the earlier years of the hotel's history. You are bidding on a small ESICO- SOLDER- POT. It is model#36- 120 volt- 250 watt. It measures 5-1/2" diameter at the base. It is 5" high and the bowl is 2-1/2" inside diameter x 1-3/4" deep. This pot works good but it DOES NOT HAVE A CORD AND PLUG. This would be a easy fix. If you happen to buy one of the other pots that I am selling then you could switch out.The plug that plugs into the pot only has 2 contacting holes in it.
