Simple eighteenth century Microscope Replica hand turned in Rosewood.The bi-convex lens is hand ground and polished to give a magnification of approximately 10X and is mounted between turned brass sleeves. The brass specimen pin and lens sleeves are lightly chemically aged to give an antique appearance. The wood finish is shellac followed by Renaissance wax. He was the eldest child of the artist, Michael Sullivan, who taught at the Brassey Institute of Arts and Sciences and the Hastings School of Art. Two of his brothers, Leo and Basil, became architects, and all three were taught to draw by their father. However, the cartoonist, James Frank Sullivan, was not related, as has long been assumed.
