Vintage '80's Custom Made Retail or Home Wooden Hat Display Stand
This hat stand was designed by me and made by a wood worker buddy in 1983 to display hats in my hat shop. Hatsmiths, Hyannis Ma. 83-89. It was specifically made to protect the hat's crown from being damaged while on display for sale. It's design supports(primarily men's hats) the hat at the band NOT pushing up on the crown. High quality fur felt hats don't like to be pushed up and out inside the crown. There you have my story and I'm not saying that other wise souls haven't thought of this super support hat display system. But I was just not able to find a decent stand to buy at the time, so we had to come up with a hand-crafted gem(about a dozen or so) and I have a few left. This one stands 14-1/4 inches high and the base is just over 7 inches round with the hat support area being a"Long Oval"but WILL fit ... morea Round Oval) size 7 and on up to the larger sizes 7-3/4 or so depending on the style. The larger hats just sit lower on the tapered supporting edge. The Stetson Western hat in the photo sitting on this stand is at about 18 inches from the counter to the top of the crown. That is up there for a hat display. The hat kind of gets out of the way of things on the counter or display window. Great design. If I may so so myself. Most hats are supported so well at the edge-taper that I can hold the stand upside down while the hat is in place. Both hats in the photos are 7-1/8(medium size) 4 little top grain leather protector buttons on the bottom to protect your counter or glass shelf. This is not a flimsy stand. Vintage 1950's Retail or Home Wooden Hat Display Stand Solid Oak, Excellent Cond
This hat stand was from a millinery or haberdasher's shop originally and it appears to be made about 1930's to the late 1950's or so. Tough to say'cause they didn't need to change this very functional design. Originally made for a woman's hat shop-display and it works well with mens hats also. This was used by me in my high-end leather and hat shop in the 70's and'80's. I stripped pink paint off it to expose the solid oak(or ash) wood grain after purchasing it in an antique shop back then. There are some slight, non-apparent(not an eyesore) minute areas of pink left over in the wood grain, tough to see, but there. The top support stress checks to the oak are non- threatening to the strength of the wood and have been there since the day I bought the stand in the early-1970's. It stands 11-1/4 inches ... morehigh and the base is 6 X 6 inches. The round disk support is 5-1/4 inches across. Hope you can use this cutie. Communication is key!
