This is a really nice scale. what i have been able to find on this scale is that it is a prescription counter top scale used in drug stores in the early 1900's. This scale was made by the E. T. Fairbanks&CO. St Johnsbury.Vermont arround 1910-1916. This was before the merge with Charles H. Morse in 1916. Then the Company became Fairbanks& Morse CO. which is what you usually see offered. This scales is in very good condition because its been mounted in this wooden box since the 1920.S. My wife's great uncle had this scale. He got this scale from his father. in the early 1920's. He was a avid shooter and reloaded all of his own bullets from the 1920,s to the 1960,s. He got it from his dad and made this little box to protect the scale. he had this box mounted at one end of his reloading workbench and used it to measure the ... moregun powder for the reloads. An unusual printed recipe for a struggling California soap maker affixed to a sales territory contract in Vermont in 1854 Manuscript Document Signed" Harvey J. Bassett" and" Simon G. Bassett. Agent" And witnessed by" Sarah M. Fisk" 1 page, 8 x 10 in. Mount Tabor, Vermont, 21 January 1854, a contract between Harvey Bassett, transferring the ownership of the write and title, to D. Fisk& C.P. Cook to manufacture, distribute and sell Carpenter's California Soap in Vermont, in large part: All my Write[sic] and title to Carpenter's California Soap I authorize the said D. Fisk& CP Cook to make use of and vend said soap in the said town under the same penalty I further Authorize Said D. Fisk& CP Cook to sue for and collect the penalty of two hundred and fifty dollars against each and every person ... moreor used persons who Shall be found using Said Soap without his Authority. The name of the Soap is California the receipt is here unto annexed Said Soap Write is to runn[sic] fourteen years from the 2nd day of September eighteen hundred fifty two in Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand. Put the clothes to soak over night in warm water, add 1/2 tea cup soap to 1 pail of water. then wring out and put the clothes in cold water; and 1/2 tea cup soap to one ail water, and let them boil 15 to 20 minutes. Description: Here is a great little box in the form of a miniature blanket chest with bootjack feet. It has nice leather hinges which still work as well as a nice paint scheme as you can see in my pictures. Please look at all the pictures to judge color and condition for yourself. The box has a black background and is decorated with a colonial couple on top as well as having some more roses and bows. The box is decorated in shades of Blue. Red, Yellow, Green, White and Pink. The box remains in great period shape with only the odd rub or mark you expect on a piece of this age. There is also a nice original paper label on the bottom that says it was made for The Vermont Store Inc. with shops in Amherst, Northampton and Wellesley Hills Massachusetts. Original Smoothside Canteen plus BROGANS Museum Quality Shoes out of Vermont
Recently out of an estate in Cabot. Vermont, the BEST pair of original Brogans I have ever seen, with a very good Smooth Side Canteen with original blue wool cover and linen shoulder strap. I do have a family name but have not pinned down the soldier as yet, worthy of further research, details will go to the buyer. The canteen speaks for itself, no stopper but a last link of the connecting chain remains, body is tight and sound, no rusting. Linen strap is a bit weak near one of the tin straps(this strap also has a slight push) as shown in the 10th photo. The Shoes/ Brogans are fantastic, correct non left or right construction, wooden pegged soles and heels, still retaining the remains of the original leather laces. These are worn but not damaged in any way, look like they came off and were put away in a trunk until this Summer. You just do ... morenot find original Shoes. Cannot say enough about this lot. These are a matching pair. They are both from the Granite City Creamery in Barre Vermont. They are both 5 gallon Cream containers, and they both have their original lids. It is rare to find the cream cans, because they made and used far fewer of them than the larger milk cans. Also they are nicer to decorate with because they are smaller and fit in easily, but they also have a nicer and more charming look to them.
