The needle moves all the way over when exposed to light, with and without the cover off. It's completely active. The dial moves as it should. The cosmetics are decent. The window is scratch free and clear. The graphics are intact. Most of the Bakelite casing looks decent with no nicks or scratches. A few panels show some paint loss, but the back panel is missing most of its paint. The back identification and informational plates are intact. No dings or dents. Comments: I researched this to see if I could find a model number. I saw one posted that looks like this one. But there was no model named, and the picture of the back doesn't seem to show one. OLD 1937 GENERAL ELECTRIC LIGHT METER FOOTCANDLE W/ LEATHER POUCH
This item is a General Electric DW-40 Light Meter. It was the first one made by GE for commercial sale. This is about as simple as you get. It is just a box with a cell and diffuser on the edge. Hold it up and it measures the light. It was one of many items from a camera collector. As you can see in my pictures. It works under the light. You can see my before and after pictures when the light was turned on. The meter is 2" square and around 1" thick. I has a little patina. But works fine. It also comes with its original pouch and instructions. The pouch is in good shape with little patina. The snap works perfectly. Shipping for this item will be only $4.00 anywhere in the U.S.

General Electric GE Exposure Meter Model 8DW58Y4 Light Values Leather Case VTG For your consideration: This General Electric exposure meter(for film or plates) was made from 1945 to 1950 and uses a selenium on silicon solar cell. It's 3 dials show f-stop. Shutter speed, and exposure index. The meter reads out 0 to 70 foot-candles and the cover opens to let in 10x more light. The hood also comes off to let more light onto the photocell. The meter does react to light, no other testing performed. The meter shows use and wear, the leather case is in good condition. This GE Exposure Meter and Case are used, sold as shown, as is, and as a collectible.

This lot comes from an estate sale. There is a Sterno Cook Stove. Marvel Photo-Electric Exposure Meter, Tintex Tints and Dyes box, Rit Tints and Dyes Box, and a Citronella Candles box. The photo-meter is damaged on the black plastic. A piece is entirely off and is only placed on the edge of the meter in the photo. You should be able to see the cracks in that photo. All boxes appear to be in very good condition for their age. One flap is missing on the inside of the candles box and there is a stain on the front of it. Please view the photos for more information.
