They've managed to stay together for 80 years, and in wonderful vintage condition. A respectful cleaning is all these lights received cosmetically. I wanted to retain the well-earned patina. Character only achievable through years and years of diligent service. The lights were disassembled. Inspected, cleaned, re-wired and reassembled. The mount twists on to the copper threads of the shade. The shades have no large chips at all. Only minor chips on the rim, just enough to show they're truly old. The globes have no chips at all, amazing to say the least. The heavy-duty cast iron Crouse Hinds swivel hangers are in ... moregreat condition and allow the light to hang vertical from a sloped ceiling. They also serve to protect the light from bumps and bruises as the light will move when struck. The down-rods are 12 inches long but I can replace those with 18" 3" or 6" free of charge. I photographed the cleanest and clearest information tag. The balance show more age but are legible. The lights from the bottom of the globe to the top of the mount is 14 inches. 27 inches to the ceiling. The shade is 18inches in diameter. I tend to each and every one as if I was restoring it for public exhibition.I'm extremely proud of my work and I hope it shows. If you have questions. Antique Appleton Explosion Proof Industrial Work Light Converted To Desk Lamp Hi everyone. 99 Cent No Reserve Auction! Get it in time for Christmas! I have for auction today amazing Appleton Industrial Explosion Proof Work Light. When I got this light. It was completely trashed. The electrics were totally dismantled, in bad need of a restoration. Instead of keeping this as a handhed worklight. I decided to turn this beauty into a desk lamp. I completely rewired everything and securely mounted it to a real nice block of wood I had from a house that was built in 1789. You just can't get wood looking like this before it turns 200 years old. The wood base is about 8 x 8 x 2 3/4 inches. Very sturdy and heavy. The base is finished in a traditional boiled lindseed oil rub which really brings out the grain in the pine. The lamp stands 17 inches ... moretall and comes with a GE Longlife Cut Crystal Reveal 60 watt halogen bulb. I wanted to put one of those edison style bulbs in here but those are too tall. It's possible you might find one that fits. But the ones I have access to at lowes do not fit. This is a pretty nice bulb though I think. The glass that surrounds the bub is about 1/4 inch thick. Beautiful dome shape and it doesn't have any chips or cracks. The original handle is a nice brown red color and is in very good condition for it's age. See the pictures. The label plate is pretty corroded but I think that just adds to the charm of this industrial lamp. The switch is an inline switch on the cord which is a 2 wat dimmer meaning there's a low setting. A high setting and off. To change the bulb. You have to unscrew the locking screw and then unscrew the metak cage that covers the glass. Very easy to do now that this is all restored. Very hard to find item on the net, these sold for over $1400 a set, new. these are pre 1978-1979 over 34 years old. We don't know if the cells can be replaced. The manufacturer is still in business but haven't seen one of these in 30 years each light has a belt loop to slip your belt through to carry on the hip. they do not have any literature or parts available.
