Vintage Zenith Electric co./Radio 8 day time switch automatic industrial clock
Zenith Electric Co. started in 1918 as a small producer of amateur radio equipment. The patent dates on this time switch are 1912 and 1923. By 1923 the company switched over to almost exclusively radio production. Very little is known of what products they may have developed or produced/invented in their early years. The Zenith Electric co. was formally incorporated in 1923. The electric part of the company name was forever changed to radio. They were the first manufacturer of the portable radio in 1924, the first mass produced a/c radio in 1926, and invented push button tuning in 1927. At some point extremely early in the companies history they manufactured this little gem. There is a small and early serial number, by the looks of it not many were produced. This visually stunning deco style face with a cutting edge cast aluminum body was ... morebuilt with quality. It measures 6 3/4" high- 6 1/2" wide- and 5 1/4" deep. There are some signs of ware and peeling paint to the aluminum body. The winding springs are still intact(not over-wound) I'm not sure if this is in working order/ has not been electrically wired to test( classic working or not) The glass is original with a brilliant and crisp dial face. It was never used on a railway and is being sold as used because the original 12VDC electrical fixture was removed and replaced with a 120VAC socket. The cord is around 3 feet long with a standard 120VAC plug on it. I purchased this from a retired brakeman almost 25 years ago and I have not done any modifications to it since I have owned it. This lot offers offers a very old electrical switch that looks like it came from the electric chair for death row! It is more likely that it came from a factory long ago. I cannot find a date or a maker's name. The only markings are"K1. The switch has a nice snap to it. The spring is still nice and strong. When the lever is pulled three blades snap into position. The blades do not slide all the way into their receivers but I think if the ends were cleaned a bit and lubricated they would. The switch is attached to a pad that measures 7 1/2 x 5 inches and is 3/4 inches thick. I believe the pad is made of a ceramic material. The unit weighs 3 lb 4 oz by itself. Vintage 1920's-30s INGRAHAM NOVA Alarm Clock ELECTRIC SWITCH TURN ON YOUR LIGHT
1920's or 30's vintage Ingraham 30 hour wind up clock with a feature unique for most alarm clocks. Instead of an alarm ringing. It has an electrical switch inside triggered by the alarm mechanism to turn on a lamp or other electric device. The original cloth cord is good. Wind up the clock and the alarm winders, set the current time. Plug the cord into an outlet, then plug your lamp into the top or side of the receptacle and turn on the lamp. Pull the chain on the top side of the clock to turn on or off the lamp. Set the alarm dial to the time you want the light to come on(or off) pull out the alarm stop knob. When the time comes around to the alarm setting, it triggers the mechanical switch inside and depending on the setting, will turn on or off your lamp. Sounds confusing but once you get it you'll see how cool it is. Clock ... moreruns good. Stays running when wound and keeps time. The alarm thing works, it's not really an alarm, it just makes a ratcheting noise as the alarm winder turns the light on, very quickly. Initially you only have to wind it 3/4 turn. You must rewind it afterwards for the next time you want it to activate. If you don't need it for the electric function. Just leave it unplugged and use it for a regular clock, The rest of the knobs and winder keys all work too. The cast metal case looks great. Antique gold or brass finish in good condition. The round flat dial glass looks good. No cracks nor scratches. 4 Sierra Electric Corp. 3 Toggle Switch Plates Description/Condition-The switch plates are brown/chocolate and ribbed. They are for three switches- no screws are included. The back of each of the plates say Sierra Elec. Corp. Gardena Calif. Made in the USA, D0-3, UL-The switch plates are pre-owned and used. You can see lint from where they were wiped with a cloth. There are scratches and you can see them when you hold the item to light. There is one switch that has a small chip at the corner edge. 58 NOS Vintage Bakelite Sierra Electric ivory ribbed switch plates/outlet covers
Up for auction here is a lot of NOS Sierra Electric brand vintage ribbed ivory switchplates and outlet covers. To wit: 33- single gang outlet covers- of these. Four appear to be of a slightly different vintage, based on the fact that the backs are different(see photo: the one on the right is the"different" one) The design and appearance of the fronts are identical on both"types" however. 18- single gang switchplates 6- double gang switchplates 1- double gang combination(switch/outlet) plate All of the plates are ivory. With very minor variations in shade that I suspect all fell under"acceptable" at the factory. Side by side, you might tell a difference; in use, you'll never notice. Most of them have the cover screws, but several of the screws worked their way out of the packaging. I will include whatever ... moreloose screws I find(sorry, there was no way to avoid that phrase) It is likely that some of the cover screws are AWOL, but these are available at any hardware store, so no need to panic.
