ECELLENT MABIE TODD SWAN 4461 FOUNTAIN PEN - No.4 NIB.
This is a Mabie Todd Swan 4461 fountain pen in Black which dates from the late 1940's. It is 13.5cm lon and is a twist-filler with gold-plated trim. The barrel imprint reads'Swan Leverless Pen. Pat No 590585. Mabie Todd& Co Ltd. Made in England' There is also the Swan logo. Under which is'Trade Mark' The model number'4461' can be found near to the end of the barrel whilst the Swan name is imprinted on both feed and section. The imprint on the Medium nib is'Swan 4 14ct Mabie Todd& Co Ltd. Made in England' The cap has three bands and the ball-ended clip bears the Swan logo. The pen is in very nice condition as can be seen. There are no cracks. Scratches or dings, the barrel imprint is well defined and there is very minimal surface wear. The trim is excellent with just brassing to the ball of the clip ... morewhilst the nib is beautiful. I have overhauled the pen and replaced the sac. The twist filler works as it should. The pen fills nicely and writes well with the flexible nib. This is a handsome. Good-sized Swan pen from the 1940's in lovely condition. Whether to be installed in a collection or to be used, I'm sure that it will be appreciated by the buyer. Antique 1937 Silvertone Tube Radio Model 4461 Wood
This is an Antique 1937 Silvertone tube radio model 4461. It is in good physical condition. I purchased this at an auction. Am not the original owner, and used this radio in my home for decoration. I have plugged it in and managed to pick up a couple stations, but I have not ran it for prolonged periods of time because of my lack of experience with radios and parts that are 75 years old and I did not want to do any damage. The light that illuminates the dial is not working and I don't know what is wrong. Also the plastic knobs that attach to the dials are very old and don't always grip the metal shaft well enough to turn, but all the shafts work. This special katagami was only made in Ise, Mie prefecture to make kimono patterns.Katagami(型紙) or Ise-katagami is the Japanese art of making paper stencils for kimono printing. The art is traditionally centred around the city of Ise in Mie Prefecture. Multiple layers of thin washi paper are bonded with a glue extracted from persimmon, which makes a strong flexible brown coloured paper. The paper is cut with a combination of knives and punches. Four principal cutting techniques are used. 1.Pulling the knife towards the artist, which results in long straight cuts. 2.Carving patterns, which allows for figurative designs. 3.Cutting circular holes, often in fan-like designs 4.Using shaped punches. The designs can be ... moreextremely intricate, and consequently fragile. Nowadays the stencils are sometimes sold as artworks, attached to hand fans, or used to decorate screens and doors in Japanese rooms. For kimono printing the stencils are stabilized by attaching them to a fine silk net. In past times, human hair was used instead of silk, but silk is less likely to warp and can be finer. The printing is done with a resist dyeing technique. Rice paste is passed through the stencil onto silk. When dyed, the colour does not adhere to the areas with rice paste.
