HP 86242D 5.9-9.0 GHz RF Plug-in for 8620 Sweeper TESTED w/ Plot
I tested this HP 86242D plug-in. Which covers 5.9-9.0 GHz and it works fine, making better than 12 dBm across the band. While not the most useful range, it does cover the DSN band and would allow you to set up a cheap test bench for developing hardware. I do not have the scale for this, but it is new dress(modern colors) and is in good condition. This will work in the 8620 series of sweeper or with the 11869 adapter, it will work in the 8350. One thought to increase its usefullness is to use a 5.9 GHz"Brick" oscillator(PLO) mixer and low pass filter to make a 0-3 GHz sweeper setup(I have done this in the past) for very cheap! Have fun! I tested this HP 86222A plug-in. Which covers.01-2.4 GHz and it does work, even though it had been literally pitched into the trash. I straigtened some metal work and tidied it up a bit and power comes out, but it is not flat, but it is cheap! This is why I have listed it as for parts, as it is also missing the leveling board and another I do not recognize. I think some TLC would improve the flatness issue, like break/clean and remake every coax joint in the unit, etc. If you need a cheap source of RF in this range or have one that is dead, here is your chance. This unit is similar tp the HP8699B for the HP 8690 type Mainframes but the Output connector is in the rear. The 2 to 4 GHz frequency range works fine.
