I KNOW THERE'S A LOT TO READ HERE BUT IT WOULD BE IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO DO SO. This old vise is really nice. The action is as slick as any I've ever felt. It's just absolutely gorgeous all over, inside and out. Let me tell you a little about the vise in general and then what I know about this particular unit. The patented date comes up via searching as August 16. 1938. It was issued to the Reed Manufacturing Company in Eerie PA. The patent was applied for on January 14, 1936. Reed was the manufacturer and Craftsman sold it under their name. Craftsman has rebranded the vises they sell for as long as they've been selling vises, they are not a manufacturer but a reseller. The model is No. 5184 and the patent is No. 2127008. In the last photo I've posted a scan of the original Patent approval so you can see all of this ... moreinformation yourself. Specs on the vise are as follows; Craftsman(Reed) No 5184 Bench Mounted Vise Pat. No. 2127008 3" Wide Jaws Opens to 5 1/2" 2 1/2" Throat Depth 12" Long end to end. When closed 7 1/2" Tall overall Weight is 29 Pounds Now. About this particular vise up for auction here; When I got it the tool was a real mess. Spider nests, dust balls, dirt. just scuz everywhere. It wasn't pretty to say the least. I took it home and gave it a bath to see what I was working with. Then I completely disassembled every part and cleaned each one in great detail. The exposed metal parts were cleaned using electrolysis. Electrical current flowing through a neutral/base liquid solution. Everything was scrubbed down using warm soapy water and then dried with air. At this point I was able to give it a good inspection and I liked what I found. What I saw was no damage anywhere and in excellent shape. Yes. There is some light surface marks here and there from use but structurally it's 100% sound. The jaws are just in terrific condition, they look as if they've only seen light use. Sometimes I paint these, if they're in really bad shape but I just lo

Charles Parker Trojan 706 Bench Vise - 5" Jaws - 71 lbs
This is a Charles Parker Trojan 706. 5" wide jaws and weighs 71 lbs. It opens up a solid 9" with the leadscrew still completely in the nut(as pictured) I went as far as 11" and it was still in the nut some. That's as far as I bothered to go since it does get front heavy and I didn't have it bolted down. The handle is 14" long, so you can really torque down on something! I got this vise as a total rust heap(check last picture) It was taken completely apart and bead blasted to bare metal. There are no cracks/ chunks missing. It's a good solid vise. There were some gashes(not too deep) on the back of the static jaw area(it is NOT an anvil area, yet people still use it like one) I smoothed it out using some JB Weld just to make it look nice. There are several coats of Rustoleum Hammered Green I think it is called. ... moreThe bare metal is coated with paste wax. And I painted the front bell of the leadscrew black. The face of the dynamic jaw and the bell of the leadscrew were kind of wore from all the decades of use, so I milled both surfaces nice and flat. I also made a nice thick brass washer that is in between now(as pictured) to keep it that way. The back of the slide has some gashes(as pictured) from the decades of(mis)use, nothing too deep though. As you can see the rest of the slide is in pristine condition.The leadscrew has been greased, as well as the front face where the brass washer is. It's all ready to be put to work, just bolt it to your table! I made a wooden base so that it could be mounted on a work bench without having to modify the bench(or vise) I really didn't want to mill the angle out of the vice as that gives it extra strength. I'm*pretty* sure I have some nuts& bolts that will fit this too and if I do I will be sure to include them(no promises though) I have lots more pictures of the resto. Dirty vice was in storage a long time. Needs a cleanup but does work ok as it is. I donot have the wrench for it. Needs a 9/16" wrench. When I cranked the vice open and closed I felt a drag about 25% around each turn. Could be dirt. Not serious but mentioning it nevertheless. One ear is broken off the top mount which is not used in this set-up. It is still usable if ever needed. The base is the main hold-down mount here. 2 bolts lock the vice in position. If you ever wanted to change the angle you would only have to loosen the 2 side bolts. Change the angle. Snug the bolts back up. Up for bid is a nice vintage Wilton Swivel Bullet vise#350. The vise is in original condition and works beautifully. The date of manufacture is 8/76 as shown on the slide. The paint is original. The vise was purchased new by a wholesale hardware company and I purchased it from them in a liquidation sale in 1981 and it has been on my bench since then. The lettering on the side of the vise reads"Made in USA. Schiller Park, ILL 60178" Please note that the original decal is in place and intact. The vise is in excellent working condition and has the normal amount of nicks, scratches, etc. The teeth are in very good condition. The vise weighs 39 pounds and I will ship it in a custom made OSB(oriented strand board) box(approximately 10 additional pounds) with the vise bolted down to the bottom. Emco Vise For Milling Machine, Workholding, Unimat 3, Made in Austria
This is a very nice Emco vice for procession work. On the mill or drill press. It has the the t-slot screws for holding it tight and the jaws are notched for holding round objects. The vice is very clean and was put away well oiled. I bought this at an estate sale of a man who was doing watch and RC engine repair.
