I do very simple plans drawn very easy to understand for those who do not understand schematics. I intentionally made these very simple so that a tinkerer or an engineer could figure out my plans. I was shown how to do this by a farmer and would like to pass this information on for those of you who need three phase. I have ran up to three milling machines from my converter design all at the same time. The third leg(wild leg) actually becomes stronger and more stable. The more machines you run simultaneously. Now you can get those top quality machines from schools and university auctions and put them to use! With three phase power you can instantly reverse a motor if needed(for tapping a hole for example) and you can start the motor UNDER LOAD which is something you can never do with single phase power. We have been making these for our own personal use now for years and I have personally built seven of them. Each one larger than the one before. I still have the last one I built and hang onto it incase I ever have to go back to a small shop or home situation again. If you buy my plans, I will personally help you with any questions you might have down the line as I have been doing ebay auctions since 2005 and have helped many people to figure out how to get set up with three phase power at their home shop for a lot less than a commercial converter too. Some guys choose to stay with large single phase motors like even up to 7 hp size that draw a LOT OF POWER and are very hard on capacitors and blow them. This auction is for a 7.5 hp Rotary style phase converter that has the motor and the converter box. The box is new and the motor has been used. The motor is a Westinghouse 7.5hp and the box was made by LC Converters. It will take an electrician to wire this in if you have never done it. My last one I put together I had my electrician wire it all in and it came out beautiful. I will box the unit up and deliver to a freight terminal for no cost but you will pay the actual shipping expense. I can send it freight collect on the shipping only as well. My guess is 250 lbs once boxed up as the motor is very heavy. I have not used this unit and the motor and capacitor box have never been connected together. See pictures for more details. Phase-A-Matic R5 Phase Converter 5HP
I've been using this for several years and it works fine. The only issue is that it occasionally starts in reverse rotation. Hasn't been a problem- I just watch which way the flywheel starts turning when I start it. And if it goes the wrong way, I shut it off and restart. I think it has something to do with the start capacitors. I believe Phase A Matic would help diagnose the problem and send a replacement capacitor if you call them, but I just got used to watching it start and it didn't seem like a problem worth fixing. Used less than 80 hours serving a 7-½ hp table saw. It has only been mounted indoors. It is ready for many more years of service! Uses very little current when unloaded/idling!
