Here is a Hewlett-Packard microwave mixer in a gold-plated case. Part number HMXR-5001, serial number 0478. It has three female SMA connectors(1) RF input, 2) Local Oscillator input, and(3) IF output. Frequency range is 2 GHz to 12.4 GHz. HP's"Product Note 8340-7" mentions this mixer being used in microwave noise figure measurements but it clearly has many other uses including ham radio, satellite TV, etc. This is a very small device, which you can see by the lines on the green background—they are 1 inch(25.4 mm) squares. This is a rugged device with hermetically packaged diodes. A 10 MHz to 1 GHz IF bandwidth, and 30 dB typical isolation between RF and LO. The conversion loss is good, only 7.5 dB typical up to 8 GHz and 8.5 dB from there to 12.4 GHz. Although spec'd 2 to 12.4 GHz, the mixer is actually useable from 1 to ... more18 GHz with lower performance. My ability to test this mixer was limited by my own test equipment. I was able to mix a 1.2 GHz RF signal with a 1.0 GHz LO signal and produce a measured 200 MHz IF output. This not only confirms that the mixer diodes are good but demonstrates the ability of the mixer to work at frequencies lower than spec'd. The mixer is guaranteed against anything but abuse. I have no data on power limitations but similar mixers in HP catalogs are limited to 100 milliwatts at the RF input. Please contact me if you have any questions.
