From the Trout Bums on the Web blog comes news of a new threat to the Mokelumne River – an attempt to raise the dam, flooding more of the river in the process:
EBMUD is attempting to get approval to raise the height of Pardee dam. If they succeed, miles of the Mokelumne river will disappear under the raised dam. In my humble opinion, the potential recreational opportunities provided by the expanded dam will not even come close to the destroyed recreational opportunities buried under feet of water.
Mikey Weir has put together a video:

At this point, we’re attempting to raise “awareness” of the issue, which sounds achingly familiar to the ongoing attempts to raise Shasta Lake, flooding out miles of the Upper Sacramento, McCloud, and Pit Rivers.
That’s not good. I’ll keep an eye on this, and hopefully we’ll be able to take action on this front sometime soon.
See you on the Mokelumne, Tom Chandler.

This one is more than just raising that all-important “awareness.” There is a plan that is gathering comments now. The EBMUD Board is split with a couple on the fence. To learn more about this you can go to http://www.friendsoftheriver.org/savethemoke Bjorn(Quote)
