The Wind River Indian Reservation, an area nearly as large as Yellowstone National Park, is home to the remaining Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapahoe, Native American Tribes. It ... moreis also home to a considerable portion of the Wind River before it reaches the Wedding of the Waters near Thermopolis and becomes known as the Bighorn. At its head, below the Boysen Dam, the Wind River Canyon appears narrow and formidable with rocky walls rising 2500 feet into the air. But don’t be intimidated. The Wind River Canyon is one of the West’s best-kept secrets, harboring excellent pocketwater fishing along its entire 15 mile run. Full of trophy browns and rainbows, it’s not unusual to net 18 to 26 inch trout while 30 inchers are infrequent but not unknown. Float fishing is available but professional guides are highly recommended since the river descends the canyon in a series of Class II and Class III rapids and conditions vary widely from season to season.

Wind River crosses into the reservation at the confluence of its East Fork, about 35 miles below its headwaters at Dubois, Wyoming. In continues in a southeasterly direction for nearly 75 miles where at Riverton, it abruptly turns north. About 20 miles downstream from this point, the river’s flows are captured by the Boysen Reservoir located outside the reservation’s boundaries. The open, high plain of the Wind River Valley is lined on the north by the Owl Creek Mountains and to the south and east by the Wind River Range. Strong winds which funnel down the valley from the northwest, give the river its name.

Wind River Lake, at the base of Togwotee Pass northwest of Dubois, is the source of the river. For its first 10 miles it is barely more than a trickle but it soon doubles in size as it merges with Sheridan Creek. Visitors can find lodging in Dubois, the social and recreational center for the northern Wind River and the eastern Absarokas mountains. Flows on the upper river fluctuate during growing season due to irrigation releases from tributary lakes. Experienced anglers say early spring, before the seasonal runoff, is the best time of year to fish, although April 1 to September 30 is the official fishing season. Fishing is good for rainbows, browns and cutthroats in the 12-16 inch range while it’s possible to hook a considerable number of larger fish.

Jackson is nestled on a large valley floor, surrounded by the majestic Teton Range to the west and the striated, Gros Ventre Range to the east. Breathtakingly beautiful, much of the ... morevalley has remained undeveloped due to the large land area set aside for the Grand Teton National Park. In the late 1890’s the town acquired its name from a volunteer postal clerk who wanted to make it easier for mail to arrive from the east. She called it Jackson as trappers, furriers and other mountain men referred to the descent into the valley as Jackson’s Hole, a moniker the valley has kept for over a hundred years.

Some think of Jackson as a winter playground for jetsetters, moguls and celebrities. Others describe Jackson as rustic, quaint and unspoiled. In fact, both are right. Accommodations cover the spectrum, from humble campgrounds to full-fledged resorts, while restaurants range from corner cafes to highly regarded, international cuisine. Perhaps best known for its skiing, Jackson offers year round activities including hiking, river rafting, eco-touring, target shooting, horseback riding and of course, great fishing.

Easy to reach, Jackson Hole is home to the largest airport in Wyoming and has become a preferred destination for business conferences and annual meetings. As far back as the early 1980’s, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has hosted its annual economic policy meeting at the Jackson Lake Lodge, originally chosen to attract then Chairman Paul Volker who was known to be an ardent fly fisherman.
Fishing Waters:
In times past, this town was known as the end of the Cowboy Line, since the Chicago and Northwestern Railway, originally built to go on to Eureka, California or to Coos Bay Oregon, ... morestopped at Lander and never went a bit further. Located on the middle fork of the Popo Agie River, Lander can boast being the first town to hold a “paid” rodeo, a tradition you can still enjoy every 4th of July. Set in the shadow of the majestic Wind River Range, it is surrounded by great fishing lakes, rivers and mountain fed streams. If you follow the Wind River up the canyon it becomes known as the Bighorn River, a favorite for those who are inclined to float.

Rated one of True West Magazine’s top 10 Western towns, many consider Lander to the undiscovered gem of the Rockies. Lodging in Landers is plentiful and diverse with motels, bed-and-breakfasts, inns, guesthouses, campgrounds and cabins in a range of price points. Should you tire of fishing, there are art galleries and art festivals, good shopping and any number of bars, restaurants and coffee houses. For those inclined to stick strictly to fishing, it’s nice to know that the world-record, golden trout, is said to have come from the Wind River.

Great day on Wind River
What an amazing day on the Wind River. I have always wanted to learn how to fly fish, so my Wife booked Geoff. The day was filled with patient teaching, fellowship, and the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Geoff is truly a master with a fly pole and he teaches in a way so you will never forget. I would highly recommend Teton Fishing Co. It was a unforgettable day and the sandwich was awesome. ... more I can't wait to go again. Thank you for everything Geoff and Jack.

Great family trip. Learned a lot.
Our family of 7 spent a day with Geoff, along with Brad and Larry. It was an amazing experience and the highlight of our trip to Wyoming. We caught some great fish, learned the basics of fly-fishing, and enjoyed great company. Geoff went out of his way to make sure that everything went well and that we did not lack for anything. The guides were excellent with all the kids but especially with our 8-year ... more old, Michael, who was small enough to get pushed around by the river current. He actually caught some of the biggest fish!! We had such fun as a family that we bought several fly rods before leaving town and have done some fly fishing back here in Michigan. Still fun, but not quite the same as our day with Geoff and crew in Wyoming. His son Jack has re-defined my image of what a fine young man is like; he was extremely helpful and so considerate. Geoff, if we pack our bags and move out to Wyoming you will be a big part of the reason why! At the very least, we look forward to seeing our new friends again in the future!

Best guides anywhere
After guiding, managing, and reping in the fly fishing industry for 8 years, I can say without hesitation that Geoff is one of the best guides I have met anywhere. He is knowledgeable, helpful, and dedicated to his clients having the best day possible. No matter what your skill level is, you will learn something new from Geoff to be a more successful fisherman. It doesn't hurt that the fisheries he'll ... more take you to are outstanding, even when it's snowing! Thanks for a wonderful few days, we will be back...

Great First Time Experience!
Geoff Stevens and his son, Jack, were excellent guides and teachers in our introduction to fly fishing during our recent trip to Dubois, Wyoming. They are very patient. A half day trip wasn’t enough. We had lots of fun at the East Fork and Wind River, especially when we caught our first trout! Great snacks during a break! We highly recommend Geoff and the Teton Fishing Company for a fly fishing adventure! ... more Thanks for the memories....

One of my son's favorite days ever
I visited Estes Park in early August together with my 13-year old son. We had booked a one day trip through Kirk's and that's how we got in contact with Geoff. Neither of us had ever fly-fished before, but were both eager and excited to learn. Geoff took us up to Rocky Mountains National Park and introduced us to what will probably be a life-long hobby for both of us--fly fishing. Geoff is an extraordinary ... more instructor, teacher and mentor who possess tremendous communication skills. At age 49 it can be humbling to learn a new skill and the quality of the teacher is focal. Through Geoff’s excellent explanations and teaching it took little time before we actually managed to throw the flies and soon after we started to catch real trouts. Geoff's knowledge and communication skills are excellent and his patience with novices who lose flies and mess up their fly-line is amazing. We had a great day with Geoff which not only included fishing, but also intelligent discussion about other issues. At the end of the day we decided to book another half-day trip the next day. That following day we caught 3-4 pound trouts and while fishing is not only about the catch, these were catches of a life-time. I can highly recommend Geoff for any kind of trip, whether for adults or kids. Geoff is such a unique person that he will be able to make your trip one to remember, no matter who you are. We are both grateful to Geoff for introducing us to this exciting world, starting out with such a successful experience, can only make you want to come back for more -- see you soon Geoff.

Father and Son Trip to Remember
Fabulous day fishing the beautiful Wind River!! Geoff is not only an expert in technique and location, but he has patience, a great demeanor and a passion for adventure. My son and I had never fly-fished before, but within 20 minutes Geoff had both of us both catching beautiful rainbow and brown trout. Can't wait for our next trip!

Great teacher
Thanks Jeff for a great day of fly fishing. It was a great day of fishing fun and fellowship. Even on a less than ideal day we caught lots of fish and I learned a lot about fly fishing. I think I'm hooked! If anyone is looking for a knowledgeable guide and teacher, Geoff is your man!

Teton Fishing Company is the best in town
I've known Geoff and his family for over 15 years and have fished with him in 3 states. He is a guide's guide and knows the water as well as anyone. It's easy to catch fish when the conditions are perfect, but Geoff will put you on fish, even when their appetite is almost non-existent. He is very patient and can teach anyone to fish. His service is impeccable. Do yourself a favor and book a trip with ... more Geoff. You will be hooked and it's in the Tetons, need I say more?
