Drawing Flies Blog Delivers Fly Fishing Art… Daily

by Tom Chandler on May 19, 2008

Does a bite of fly fishing art each day keep the I’m-Not-fly-fishing blues away?

Frankly, it’s damned unlikely, but it’s still better than a sharp 6wt in the eye. That’s why I’m wondering how I missed this cool site for so long:

The artist’s goal is to post a piece of artwork each day for a year — and the artwork centers on fly fishing’s biggest phonies: artificial flies. (What did you think we were going to say?)

Give the site a visit (we’re on day 180-something of 365). See you at the art gallery, Tom Chandler.

This is one of the coolest sites I’ve ever come across…he did a stimulator a while ago that was just plain awesome. The variation in materials is pretty cool, too: one day bright, colorful watercolors, the next pencil on a restaurant tablecloth.

Yeah, he made the RSS reader for sure. Score another one for Internet exposure of artists…

Just when I was getting some ideas, always a day late. I don’t think I would have done it as well, but I might go with it anyway. Might be neat to have another perceptive. Awesome site. everyone should check it out.

What a great idea – but tough to follow up on. I love fly fishing work. Check out my website full of fishing art:

I have never experienced fly fishing. Is it more difficult than slamon fishing?

I just got to meet and talk with Jeff Hennedy while I was tying flies at the Great Water Fly fishing Expo in Minneapolis this past weekend. He was painting next to another painter I know, Bob White. Jeff and I chatted for about 20 minutes and it was a joy to watch and learn from a fellow artist. His work is top notch and very refreshing.
