From a new blog (it still has that new blog smell) titled “Teh Wind Knot” (that’s not a spelling error, which offers some insight into the writer’s course) we find more encouraging news via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the “right” of Donny Beaver to string piano wire across the Little Juniata River.
In a case closely watched by anglers, a Huntingdon County judge has ruled that the operator of a private fishing club cannot block public access to a stretch of the Little Juniata River near Spruce Creek.
The lawsuit had pitted several state agencies and a local fishing guide against Don Beaver, who leases a 1.3-mile portion of the river in Huntingdon County for his Spring Ridge Club. Club members pay tens of thousands of dollars to fish dozens of leased streams in Central Pennsylvania, Erie and Ohio.

The question of “navigability” is often at the core of access issues, and in this case, the Juniata had been used for transportation at the early part of the century.
With two long-awaited decisions bubbling up to the surface, it’s a good day to be a fly fisher.
