J. C. Brown Forestville Paper Mache Clock Case - MOP - 1847 - 1855
This is what I believe to be a paper mache clock case. The barely readable label inside the case indicates that it is made by or for the Forestville Mfg. Co. and J. C. Brown. That company was in business between 1847 and 1855 and was taken over by E. N. Welch. The case is decorated with original gold paint and mother of pearl inlays(none missing) The dial opening will accommodate a dial pan that is about 6-1'2 in diameter. The case is 14-5/8" tall by 10-1/4" wide at the base and 6-1/2" deep at the base. The case feels lighter than wood and clearly has a paper mache bottom piece. It looks like the bottom glass is original but the top glass looks newer. I will gladly answer any questions and will ship only to the lower 48 States. This was hand cut from a real brown glass bottle. Once cut the shoulders and neck are then used as the stem and foot. It is securely stuck on the the bottom with some silicone.
