Up for auction is a lot of three more recent used Johnson spincasting reels. They were made in in the U.S.A. and are so marked under the thumb release buttons. The lot includes two different Century Model 225s and a Country Mile Model 10. The reels are in good cosmetic shape. As are the graphics, with no damage or cracks on the black plastic housings. There are a few tiny spots on the spool covers. Mechanically, the reels are all in good working order. The actions are smooth and the release, anti-reverse and drag mechanisms on each work fine. The glass is clear but does have a light mauve tint. Especially noticeable on the top of the dome, where the glass thickens. My understanding is that around the 1860's lead was removed from glass and manganese was substituted. Manganese reacts with ultraviolet rays and turns the glass a light mauve This estate find.
