This old"SAG HARBOR" spear is in excellent condition! Cleaning revealed no cracks or repairs. The points are extremely sharp. It appears to be hand worked. Nothing is loose. There are no chips. It's just exceptional. It's 10 1/4" wide across the tines which is substantially larger than an otherwise identical one I once had. That smaller spear had two less tines. That one was marked"H D FORDHAM" but I don't see that on this one. I assume it's the same maker given the common markings of"SAG HARBOR" and nearly identical form(minus the extra tines) It's 16" long overall. Mr. Buttonow has been carving Decoys for 60+ years and some of his Decoys have been displayed in the"Primitive Room" of the White House in Washington. D.C. This Decoy is beautifully carved with graceful lines and simple painting which enhances it's presentation. The Merganser has glass eyes which catch the light.
