The temperature sensing is randomly reading too high(the LED display reads high and jumps around) causing the iron to decide not to heat. So sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I emailed Xytronic(they were happy to chat) and they said it sounded like the iron was faulty rather than the station. Might just be a loose wire. But I decided to sell it on rather then fix it as it is taking up too much benchspace.
