This lot is truly and literally'the Right Stuff' And I think you'll agree. These books were the personal effects of Richard C. Lathrop, a Colonel in the USAF and test pilot, as well as the Commandant of the Edwards Air Force Test Pilot School from June 1959 thru June 1961. It seems he passed away in Paso Robles CA last year, June 28 2012. where he had retired to after leaving the Air Force in 1974 after 32 years service. Since his retirement he had enjoyed the warm temps and golf of the Central Coast. He ranks among the likes of Chuck Yeager and Buzz Aldrin as Commandant of the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, Mojave desert CA. It seems after his passing his family has donated some of his books to charities and bookstores, as they have been showing up here and there in the last year. After seeing so many high level ... moretech books for the last year, obviously once the pride of someone of a graduate level at least, I decided to see what I had. Check google and wikipedia for references to his esteemed life in the US Air Force. As well, check out the copy of the Test Pilot mag Cockpit, the JAN Feb Mar 1994 issue, which is included in this lot, which features a full page on Dr. and Maj Richard C. Lathrop, on page 39. Obviously these were books for the best of the best, test pilots, engineers, etc. Okay, to the items themselves. These are the best 2 books of the lot of Dr. Lathrops that I've acquired. Flight Dynamics of Rigid and Elastic Airplanes' by Jan Roskam, Unic of Kansas, both volumes 1 and 2. These books alone would be at least $200 to buy, but don't think you'll understand much of this unless you have a PhD in aeronautical engineering. Packed with calculus and equations.
