WELCOME TO MY AUCTION For sale today is a vintage piece of museum quality dental history. I am selling a Lewis Cross dental vulcanizer. Patented Oct, 2 1894. Manufactured by the Buffalo Dental Mfg. Co. Buffalo. NY. Serial number is hard to read think it is 37023-7-16 The canister is made of copper and the other parts are steel and cast iron. It was used by a dentist to harden rubber that was mixed with other ingredients to form dentures. It has a locking handle with a wooden knob. Unbroken high temp. thermometer with a screw on cover, and what I believe is a blow off valve and release valve on the top. It would have set in a heating unit that got everything very hot. It is about 11.75 in. tall and weighs 14 lbs. You can look at the pictures and see it has been used a lot, missing some chrome on the handle and the there is rust on the inside ... moreof the lid and the handle. Has quite a few dings in the steel top and I see a couple cracks in the locking rings, see pictures. Wooden handle has a chip out. It needs to be in a museum for everyone to enjoy.
