The US Cavalry was held in reserve in WW1. Escorting convoys and officers, waiting to exploit a breakthrough which never came. The familiar US M-1910 khaki canteen cover was adapted for Cavalry use by adding a russet leather strap and brass snap hook. And deleting the wire belt hanger from the back. This allowed the canteen to be conveniently strapped to the saddle for ease of carry and access. This US Army WW1 M-1917 CAVALRY CANTEEN SET is in very good condition. It consists of an unmarked WW1 M-1910 Rock Island Arsenal Type 2 welded aluminum canteen produced between 1914 and 1918. The canteen is in very good shape. Neutral density and sun with grey felt storage case. Matching early style B&L Mkt. leather cary case body is in intact condition with good stiching, lineing, hinge and'lift dot' latch. Offered here is an original example of an 1886 Indian Head cent. a better date for the 80's. Scarcer Type 2 variety with last feather pointing bewteen the C& A of AMERICA. Grades Fine in my opinion. Coin exhibits a dark chocolate brown color with decent strike and detail. Bold LIBERTY with surfaces and detail as depicted in the photos.
