McGill Trouble Light Vapor Proof Bakelite 25' Cord 1953 Works!
Funny story about this beautiful McGill vapor proof trouble light. We stumbled across it at a yard sale ten or eleven years ago. Right before beginning our hiatus from eBay, and picked it up because, hey, it's a trouble light. One never knows what kind of trouble lies ahead, or how many lights it will require. Also, Bakelite. So it hung around here for a decade or so, and we used it a lot. Especially in the basement, where no one likes changing light bulbs. Most recently, it's been hanging out in the shop, providing light for our machining projects. Then. About a month ago, we noticed similar lights being sold here and discovered that, under all the spiderwebs and dust, ours was pretty nice, too. We cleaned it up and noticed some interesting details. Every part of it is marked McGill, except for the largest gasket, which just has ... morepatent numbers, and the cord, which is probably not original given how good its condition is. Also, the plug is modern and grounded. The glass is marked McGill, and also has the date Jul 28 1953 engraved new the threads, alongside a circle with HH inside. We're describing this is detail because we don't know precisely what it means, but dates are cool. All of the pieces. Except the aforementioned cord, are original and, along with the cord, in excellent condition. The gaskets are heavy and solid with no cracks or dry spots, or any signs of age at all. The glass is not chipped or cracked, and neither is the Bakelite fixture. It's about as perfect as a light can be, that's been in near constant use for 60 years. We're just selling it because we have another light that does the same thing without being extremely cool, and this one should go to someone who will truly appreciate it. Vintage Wheeler Vapor Proof Light
Vintage Wheeler Reflector Co. Light. This light fixture dates back to the 1960's and would be a great vintage light to hang above a bar, in a game room or in a rustic barn. This piece is approx 12" Across and 12" high and has very little wear to the original finish. There are a few minor chips to the porcelain on the rim. The vapor proof globe has a date of January 22, 1964 and is in excellent shape with no chips or cracks. Please view pictures to evaluate the condition of the light prior to bidding. The shade has white porcelain on the outside, white on inside& black on rim. This piece has been rewired with 14 ga. insulated copper wiring, but recommend having a licensed electrician inspect the fixture and install it according to local building codes. If not the winners. These amazing lights have it all, rarity, condition, engineering, beauty and desirability. Also, simply put, these are the BEST Benjamin Vapor Seal Lights I have ever seen.by far. They are extraordinarily beautiful. The lights were carefully dismantled and cleaned. The large asbestos gaskets were removed and safely disposed of. Several of these were present in each light. If you read the 1935 Benjamin catalog page above. You already know this. New, non-asbestos gaskets were factory cut using a die I had custom made just for these lights. Other gaskets were sourced from various hi-temp gasket suppliers. ... moreBenjamin Vapor Seal Lights are normally found without their heavy glass convex lens. These lights are all totally complete as shown. Included with the lights. Are cast iron Crouse-Hinds cushion/shock absorbers and hangers. The retail value on these two parts alone are in the $150 plus range. The porcelain. Top and bottom, is in FAR above average condition. The white underside has always been protected by the heat resisting glass cover. The green has very minor chips if any. It's almost inconceivable how they managed to stay so nice over the course of 80 years. The lights are well photographed so the buyer has a good sense of what they are purchasing. The only part that I had to apply new finish to was the cast-iron cap that sits atop the cast-aluminum hood. This cap was bead-blasted. Primed and painted. Notice the copper shock-absorbing mechanism inside the cast-iron cap. They thought of everything! The sockets were simply cleaned. Inspected and re-wired. They look almost new. They are a mogul base socket and are fitted with an easily removed adapter so the buyer can choose to use standard medium base household bulbs. The lights are rated for up to 500 watts. T

Cast iron star building stress plate, vapor lights that i came across a while ago. new 40w tubular bulb for the right look. new cord, socket and switch to be safe. glass globe, base of star is around 9" in diameter, total height of lamp is about 15" 4' cord, roller switch. painted with hammered metal paint in sliver for light and post and black for the base. i made a few of these and i will be listing 2 for now to see how they do on here. any questions just ask.
