Gleb Korolov moved to Los Angeles from Ukraine when he was eight, and then to Big Bear Lake when he was ten. Fishing has always been his passion, and he spent majority of his summers ... moreon the lake. He started working at the docks to sneak in a few casts in boat slips, that’s where he met John The Fishing Master! He asked to be deckhand on his boat and he agreed. The next three summers consisted of netting fish, cleaning boats, learning everything about Rainbow Trout, and the technique of trolling. In the summer of 2010 he graduated from Big Bear High School and moved away for college for a few years (still fishing everyday). When he came back Spring of 2013 he was right back on the boat with John and Cliff, then became a guide the following spring.
“Let’s go fishing! I can’t wait!”
Conner McDonough first moved to Big Bear in the winter of 1996, and graduated from Big Bear High in 2014. He began working for John in the spring of 2012 and has been hooked ever since! ... moreHe spent his first two years as a deckhand under John and Cliff, before learning the trade of being a guide. Come enjoy some reel fun aboard the Less Stress!
Cliff Fowler, Master Guide fell in love with Big Bear in 1965 when his parents built their first vacation home in Moonridge. After selling the valleys best-known fishing shop, he teamed ... moreup with John Cantrell, owner of Cantrell’s Fishing Guide Service, which has been the longest running charter service since 1991. Cliff Fowler has been the host of “Fowlers Fish Tales” on KBHR 93.3 for 15 years.
John Cantrell, owner/guide, and Cliff Fowler, master guide, have a combined fishing experience on Big Bear Lake of 80 years. John and Cliff are two thoroughly well experienced fishermen ... morewho know the secrets of the trade and the in’s and out’s of Big Bear Lake.

John Cantrell first came to Big Bear Lake on family vacations when he was a child. He continued to come back when he had a family of his own. In 1989 he met “Capt. Pete” who taught him everything there was to know about fishing in Big Bear Lake.

In 1991, John took over his guiding business and Cantrell Fishing Guide Service began… With the longest running guide service on Big Bear Lake, John knows Big Bear Lake and loves to share fishing tips and the secrets spots. Beware though: John has some jokes that will either make you LOL or just shake your head.

To see an angler with an ear-to-ear grin when they land their “Trophy Rainbow Trout” or the young angler who catches their first fish, the sparkle in their eyes and knowing that the memory will be with them for the rest of their lives. That is what makes me happy! ~ John
From Utah, Darren’s been flyfishing from a very young age and tutored by his father. His learning country is the rivers of the northern Wasatch Mountains such as the Logan River, Bear ... moreRiver, Blacksmith Fork and many others, plus with his dad he was lucky enough to spend much of his early learning years on the Rivers of Southern Montana. Studied Bilology at both University of Utah and then Weber State which gives him a very good concept of the outdoors, Fish and insects.
Brad received his first fly rod on his 11th birthday and has been fishing ever since. He began working and guiding for Western Rivers Flyfisher in 2001, mainly on Utah’s small streams. ... moreIn 2008 the Green River beckoned and his guiding switched to the Green River and he now lives in Dutch John, UT, and guides year-round. In off times he concentrates fishing small streams and, enjoys upland bird hunting.
I am a Salt Lake City native and grew up within a few blocks of our fly shop. I’m looking forward to a great fourth season of guiding on the Green River below Flaming Gorge. I started ... morefly fishing the waters of northern Utah and Idaho with my dad and brother at a young age with an emphasis on matching the hatch and finding dry-fly fishing opportunities. Learning this kind of fishing in my youth gave me a keen interest in entomology, reading water, patient observation, and clean presentation. I love exploring small streams and still water but was always mesmerized by big rivers, where complexity seems to hold hands with simplicity, and I feel I am constantly learning. Growing up teaching friends how to fish has built a love for instructing and guiding as a whole, and to me, there is nothing more enjoyable than watching clients improve their skills, catch more fish, and in turn have a more rounded, full experience on the river. In more recent years, fishing a two-handed rod with a swung fly as well as stalking the banks with big dry-flies has taken over my free time. I also love chasing warm water species like carp and bass in the summer. I still find some time to snow/skateboard but they’ve taken a definite back seat to fly fishing the last few years. To me, the Green River is heaven. It’s hard to beat its variety of water, scenery, wildlife, and fishing opportunities for novice to expert anglers and the fish are vibrant and healthy. Not to mention the incredible dry fly fishing. This part of our great state will surely keep me busy for years to come.
Matt has a strong work ethic and guides with a large amount of enthusiasm. He purchased his first Dory when he was 18 to assist his craving for running rivers. His passion to spend ... moretime on the water has played an enormous part in his life. That began by spending a large amount of time stomping around with his Grandfather on the Provo, and Weber Rivers and many of the Stillwater fisheries around Utah.
It then became an addiction as he began to find a crew of friends that had a similar calling to moving water and the fish that lived there. His dream from a young age was to become a Fly-fishing Guide. His dream was realized, when he started to work for Western Rivers Flyfishers, and found he shared the views of his co-workers and the shop’s owner towards the overall experience that can be gained by spending time on the water with good company.
Matt has true affection for throwing Dry Flies and taking an old school approach to both Fly-fishing and guiding. He is an excellent instructor in all types of fly-fishing from Spey casting, throwing streamers, all the way to achieving the perfect drift with a dry fly. He loves to teach and learn from anyone who is willing to spend time with him on the water.
Guiding since 2000, wrestled until 30 years old....then had to get a real job! Guiding and smiling!!

As a native of the Pacific Northwest, Dennis Dickson has lived in Arlington his entire life, (except for two years while attending the University of Washington and another two years ... morein Hawaii.)Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, College Of Fisheries in 1978 working the next eight years as a full-time fisheries biologist. Dennis expanded beyond the biology field and began guiding fly anglers in the mid 1980's. In 1990 Dennis recognized many of the challenges associated to fisheries were habitat related. He branched out into the environmental section, graduating from the Wetland Institute of Technology in 1990. Dennis has spent the past 21 years, working as both a Biological environmental/fisheries consultant as well as a flyfishing guide.Dennis and his son Mike share their vast outdoor experience, including the teaching of their highly popular flyfishing schools. Flyfishsteelhead.com is among the most widely read Internet weekly steelhead flyfishing reports in the state of Washington. Dennis also has personally written over 40 articles and stories about steelhead flyfishing.Dennis & Mike spend their time guiding and eco rafting for salmon & steelhead throughout the year in regions like the Skagit & Sauk Rivers in the North sound, the Olympic Peninsula’s Queets River, and southeast Washington’s Grande Ronde. Dennis enjoys all aspects of fisheries work, which includes preserving spawning streams & watershed protection. Sharing this education with guests on river rafting tours, is his way of giving something back. He and his sweet wife Dawn have been married for 35 years. (Any wife who can put up with a Biologist/Flyfishing guide as a husband should get some kind of congressional medal.) They have three wonderful kids, Mike being the oldest. Dennis is happy working in his community and church (when he is in town). He enjoys people and loves fish. Watching guests come away with a greater watershed appreciation is a thrill that never goes away.
