If the rod seems too short try putting it in the base first with only 1-2 turns and then put the tote on. It is easier to do this when you install the toe screw last. 14 1/4" LONG ROD WITH THREADED END LOT OF 20
Up for auction we have a lot of 20- approximately 14 1/4" long rods. Made from some sort of fer rous metal. A magnet will stick to these rods. One end of these rods are threaded with a 1/4-20 size thread. The other end has a ball shape. Please look at photos. These were found in an old tool box that I picked up at an estate sale so I don't know what they were used for. All of these have a nut. But 4 of the are plastic nuts and also they do have some scratches, dings and again the four with plastic nuts have some tape residue on them. The knob is tarnished and has verdigris, the green oxidation. There is some light rust on the threaded rod. You can use these as they are or polish them.

Up for sale are 4 pieces of thick threaded rod and the accompanying nuts. The nuts do spin fairly easily but the nut make hit some dirt/nicks along the way and get hung up a little. It just needs a bit of elbow grease to get past the stoppage. A wire brush may come in handy as well. They do clean up nicely on a wire wheel. They are just about 10.5" long.1 3/8" thick. One group(rod and two threaded nuts) weighs right at 7 lbs. They can certainly be used as designed or depending on your creativity. The uses could be endless. Surface blemishes/tarnish expected of used pieces of this age. I do not know if these are solid brass. Brass plated, or a combination but a magnet does not stick to any parts. The 2 inside mount brackets are marked GERMANY on back(see pic) I see no marks on any other pieces. Vintage RARE wood shoe stretchers wooden threaded screw rod for ladies high heel
This is a really unusual pair of stretchers. trees or keepers) for a small size, pointed toe, high heel shoe. The ball of the threaded dowel or rod is placed in the heel of the shoe and screwed tight to keep the shape or stretch the shoe. I show them in a pair of size 7 vintage shoes to explain how I think they were designed to use. Stretchers did not come with the shoes. But purchased from an estate sale. They are QualiCraft. good vintage condition. inside lining is dry. Cracked and needs glued down. Likely wearable but nice to display with stretchers. Wood is likely a fruit wood. maybe maple. No cracks or breaks. One ball fits loosely on the threaded rod and the other one has a piece of old fabric to make it fit tighter. I think this really adds to the charm. The only marks that I see are a 6 and 3 in the bottom of the concave form. I would ... moresay the 6 is for size and the 3 may be width because the ball of the foot is about 3" wide. The threaded rod is about 10¾" long. Including the ball. These stretchers are aged to perfection. great item for use or display. The ceiling cover measures about 5 1/4" in diameter for the larger end and the smaller end is 1 1/16" in diameter. This part has not been cleaned it has scratches and some marks. The rods measure 6 3/4" long and the other is 5 1/16" in length they have 3/8" threads. One has a brass finial and the other has a brass threaded top.
