Antique 19th Thick Walled Wood Pantry Box Green Paint Copper Nails Firkin NR!!
Hello! Up for auction today is this gorgeous example of a 19th century pantry box or firkin. It has traces of green paint. And is white washed on the inside. The wall is 1/4 of an inch thick& it measures 12 inches across& 6.5 inches deep. The bentwood handle is attached by wooden pegs(one of the pegs was broken long ago but still functions perfectly) There is some loss around the rim of the lid. But does not interrupt the natural patina of this beautiful piece. Square head copper nails were used. Along with a few others, it almost looks like the others may have been added later, for strength i am guessing. There is a crack that runs all the way across the lid but the outer rim is still nicely intact and holding fast. If you have any questions. Please feel free to ask. It is a complete 9 piece set consisting of: Large wooden canister with 8 smaller wooden spice containers. The large container is round and made from an overlapping piece of wood which is tacked together with small copper nails. The top is wood with a tin band around the edge which fits into the bottom piece. The inside contains 8 smaller wood canisters which contain the spices. They are marked"GINGER. CLOVES, NUTMEG, ALLSPICE, PEPPER, CINNAMON, MUSTARD, AND MACE. The Pepper is larger than the others. They have tin bands on the tops and at the base. Antique/Vintage,Hand Painted Firkin,Sugar Pail,Copper and Square Nails
This is a BIG(17" tall with handle upright) Double strapped, Beautifully hand painted, Covered Firkin/Sugar Pail, with handle. It is blue paint with gorgeous hand painted Pink Roses and Buds. The design is stunning and it is"marked" by the artist with a small smudged thumb print(pic 10+11) The staves are tongue and groove, and the straps are really nice with copper nails and staples. The straps are separate and holding the staves together as one piece, not nailed into the pail. The bottom is beveled and grooved into the staves. The top is gorgeous and out of round, and the strap around it is held on with tiny square nails. The piece is showing shrinkage of the wood indicating age. This Firkin is a Beautifully Crafted and Decorated piece of FOLK ART! I believe it to be early 20th century, from the construction, darker color ... moreof the paint on the outside, and the shrinkage of the wood on the top and between the staves. Vintage Golfing Sculpture Copper and Antique Horseshoe Nails Nut Man
This is an older copper sculptor unknown maker pre-fifties. He stands on a metal triangle and is made with a nut for a head and quite the temper. His ball sits atop a tree of copper with a bent club in his hands. I think he might have hit the tree. No proof though. I have had this since the early seventies and I wish to part with him. Each Copper Nail has the Duquesne Light Co. Stamp(in those days it was" D L" for Duquesne Light) And letters and numbers to indicate the location of each utility pole the nails were placed. Each Nail measures 2" Long, with the Nail Head at 3/4" The Body of each Copper Nail still shines very nice. Being it was embedded in the wood telephone pole and not exposed to the weather and elements and was protected. A very expressive and strong figure. Stunning Vintage Altar Cross Crucifix with two Cherubs and Copper Nails. Europe
This stunning piece just came in from a European auction. I'm afraid there is very little known about it has it came from a private Estate. It is a lovely altar cross. Three footed, with two cherubs below the figure of Christ on the cross. The nails in Christ's hands and feet are copper. I am not sure of the rest of the material. There cherubs are silver in color while the rest of the cross appears to have been dipped in gold. It is a lovely and highly unusual piece. It stands 9" high and 4 1/2" across the base. Beauty Early 1800s-1850 Snuff Box in Shape of Shoe, Silver Insert, Copper Nails
This is a very early and beautiful antique carved wooden snuff box in the shape of a shoe.dating probably from early 1800s to 1850. I'm not sure what the wood is. But it's a real gem! Size is apx. 3" long by 1 1/4" high, and condition is very good with some small blemishes. There are what look like little copper nail heads on the heel and sole of the shoe.some of them are missing, but great detail, and also copper heads on the front to indicate button ties. There is also, what looks like, a small european? 800 silver insert on the top of the drawer lid. Lid slides out to reveal compartment for the snuff. This clock looks to be made of walnut laminate over a hardboard with 24 actual nails secured towards the edge and in the center that have an actual copper wire stretched between the nails in an intricate star-burst design. This is a true vintage ice bucket made by Jerwil. It is 7" tall not including handle and the top is 7 1/2" in diameter. It has some small scratching on the lid and on the bucket. T he Insulated shiny brass color is in good and working condition and marked Jerywil at the bottom. It has a gold tone handle and knob at the top of the lid for easy access which also show signs of use as most vintage items do. But not bent and moves easily back and forth and 100% functional. 19th C Antique Small 2 Finger Oval Shaker Pantry Box Copper Nails
This is the tiniest box in my great-uncle's collection. He lived in Dover. N.H. This box measures 3-1/2" long, 2" wide, and 1-1/4" tall. Hence, it's as tall as the width of"2 fingers" I've taken photos of it from every angle. There is some damage to one side of the top- on the right if you look at the wrapping seam as the front. The top edge of the wrapping on the bottom piece is torn off. I think I've captured everything in the photos. But p lease don't hesitate to ask questions. I can see the copper coloring of one of the nails. It looks like there are wooden pegs holding the wrapping to the top and bottom. It's a beautiful little box with dings. Dents, and stains to attest to its age and authenticity. You may notice other boxes in the photos- I'll be listing them today. Also.
