Another barely-educated estimate is a ureteroscope and some sort of cystoscope(Spulkystoskop" The impressed lettering on the lid. As best I can translate, says"Ureter and(coil?induction? Cystoscope with Coil?induction? Invention for Private Lecturer Dr. O. Ringleb" Inside the lid, the impressed lettering says"Georg Wolf G.m.b.H. Specially Made for Cystoscope" My 40 years in carpentry qualifies me to say"none of the three main doohickies in the case appear to be broken" There is one specialized light bulb in one of the instruments, there are 7 extra bulbs in the little plastic case with green label. The case, which looks ... moreto be made of mahogany; there are 2 substantial age-cracks in lid, and some expectable wear, but nothing horrible. Hinges and latches are nice and tight, working fine. The case was put together with glue and brass screws, built to last. Vintage Brown-Buerger Cystoscope made by American Cystoscope Makers. Inc. This is a well preserved box-set of Cystoscope instruments. The box is made of walnut and has most of it's original luster. The laquer coat is shiny and smooth. Best I've seen so far! I'm not sure of the age of the set. There is a"ACMI No 51" stamped on the metal plate on the lid that details to use that lamp for this device. The box and its contents are in unusually good condition. There are 3 main instruments. Extra luer lock tips, obturator, resectoscocpe and an element to pass ureteral catheters. T his is a Choice Set for your collection!

This is not some wacky medical device that will cure almost anything. It really is a vintage cystoscope and case. The actual name of the device is THE STERN-McCARTHY- VISUAL PROSTATIC ELECTROTOME It is also called a Resectoscope set. The following is a medical journal description of the device. I am assuming that most of what is described is included in the box. What you see in the following photos is what you get! Here is a medical definition of what is for sale: The set consists of five main parts. Plus accessories and case. Nickel-plated brass forward and oblique vision examining telescope has nylon eyepiece and distal glass lens; tip accommodates light bulb. Two beaked bakelite sheaths each have an insulating disk at proximal end and extend into nickel-plated brass hub with spring-loaded wing nut and inflow irrigation nipple. Hollow nickel-plated ... morebrass irrigating obturator has bell-shaped handle and C-catch at proximal end; distal end has one flat side. Insulated wire cutting loop is mounted at distal end of long thin metal tube with small single prong plug at proximal end. Nickel-plated brass and nylon electrotome working element carries cutting loop. Examining telescope, and bakelite sheath; cutting loop is controlled by rack and pinion system on toothed bar; proximal end of element has C-catch, thumbscrew, electrical connection terminal and outflow stopcock. Cased Set of Cystoscope and Probes_ The case is made of oak and measures 9" by 5"½ by 1½" 23x14x3.5 cms) It has good quality hinges and a nice catch. On the inside of the lid is embossed in gold: Georg Wolf G.m.b.H. Spezialfabrik für Kystoskope BERLIN N.W.6 Karlstrasse 18 The base of the case is fitted out to hold the instruments. There is a glue line suggesting that a partition is missing which would have formed a tray at the lower half of the base. There are three probes and a'viewer' which can attach to the probes. It is of complex construction and I am not sure how it all works. In its simplest form it can be attached to each of the outer sheathes to give a line of sight down each tube.
