170+ Year Old, Solid Brass, JF&BF MEEK REEL (One of the oldest Meek reels!)
Let me start with a quick history of how we discovered this amazing reel. We live in Madison. Indiana. Our home and barn are located on the banks of the Indian-Kentuck Creek and the Ohio River. In researching the reel we have dated our home to the early 1830's. From that point the court house records get little harder to follow. Our house by todays standards would be considered median size, however in the 1830's, from our research, it would have been considered large and possibly owned by a more affluent family. We inherited the homestead from my husbands family over 25 years ago along with the barn and all of its contents. About 18months ago, we decided to start going through several old wooden boxes, including some old ammunition boxes. In one of the boxes we found several antique wood working tools and this heavy, grungy looking ... morefishing reel. I grew up fishing and hunting with my dad so I loved the look and feel of this reel immediately! You could just tell there was something special about this reel. I wiped off a little bit of the dirt and then started doing my research. Let me start by saying this reel is not perfect. You will see by the pictures and the description. That there are some issues with this reel. However, I have spent about the last 18 months working with a top authority in Meek reels and Kentucky reels in order to give you as accurate of a description of this reel as I could, its history, and its possible value. The reel has been described as"museum quality" and"historically important and very valuable" AS IS" and due to its age alone. The suggested starting price"as is" was $10.000. If you are seriously looking at this auction, I'm assuming that you already know the type of reel I'm offering and already have some knowledge of its history and value. Basic Description: JF& BF Meek began were jewelers/watchmakers that began hand making these amazing reels ca. 1837. This reel dates to around 1840 give or take. This reel is a very early model.

Rare 1950's Luxury Kam Lung Leather & Brass Handbag Purse Carry On Bag
Here is a rare old luxury handbag from the 1950's. There is a label in the top of the bag that says Kam Lung. And made in Hong Kong on it. This is a high fashion women's handbag/carry-on luggage piece with the area below under lock/key for jewelry. This type of bag from is from the 1950's. When this style and quality from Hong Kong was coveted by the wealthy. The company who made this bag made beautiful leather pieces in and around the 1950's. Luggage as well as handbags. There is a new Kam Lung group in Hong Kong now that dates from the 1980's and they deal in snakeskin; they're not the original company whose pieces are quite hard to find. The bag measures about 12 1/2" wide. X 9 1/2" high(this does not include the top strap) x 6" deep at the base. The bag is made of leather, with brass hardware. The ... morelower compartment has two brass spring loaded latches, I do not have the key. The lower compartment measures about 3" deep, with a zipper pouch in the back. It has hinges in the back and hinges on the inside which only allow it to open so far. The top opens from the middle, and also has a zipper pouch in the back. The interior also appears to be leather. There are brass buttons on the bottom one in each corner for the bag to rest on. As far as issues with this item the top strap has come loose, the stitches have come undone, I would think this could be fixed quite easily. The inside is very nice, and the rest of the bag is very good accept for the top strap which is quite worn and coming undone in the back, it should be replaced. Please check out the pictures. This beautifully crafted all-wood vintage dresser has two gorgeous wood pullouts inside the triple-door upper section and two large lower drawers. This piece is painted in a midnight blue-black to jazz it up and make it stand out. The original solid brass hardware in a diamond shape has been polished and accents the dresser brilliantly. It's an older piece. Made in a time when they knew how to make furniture, by a company called Fancher. The drawer boxes are solid oak and dovetailed. The pullout upper drawers are sectioned to organize accessories or garments. Immaculate condition. Ready for use, waxed finish. Drawers work perfectly. I saw something similar on the Museum of Technology UK's website that is called a War Department Resistance Bridge. But it is not exact. This is marked GPO AX-30/234 on the base(UK's General Post Office-a major provider of phones and service in the early-mid 20th Century. Large Antique Wood& Brass Tripod Hello. For your consideration is this large. Early, brass and wood tripod, suitable for large and heavy transits or levels. I believe the wood is mahogany or walnut. The outside diameter of the all- brass head is 3 13/16" The threads are fine. And in my opinion are in good condition. The total length is 56" when folded up. I can find no makers mark on this heavy duty tripod. Only a couple of ISC identification marks(Iowa State College, no w the University of Iowa State) The nicely sculpted legs are approximately 1 3/4" thick at the broadest. And have all brass hardware other than the metal feet. One of the legs has a slight warp. There are of course chips. Age checks and dings as you would expect on a working tripod, and there is an old repair that was made with copper or brass rivets, but ... moreit is very solid and ready for work or display. This floor shaving stand with a tilt mirror is in the Eastlake style. The age of the piece is c. 1870-1890. It is in great found original condition. The mahogany finish is original with a good patina. The original beveled mirror tilts at various angles to accomodate one who is shaving. The dovetailed drawer has the original pulls to it. The storage compartment on the bottom is unusual in that this type stand usually does not have this feature. It also has its original hardware. The stand is sturdy and tight. I have found no repairs. This is an Antique Brass Victorian Umbrella Stand. It is ornate and ringed with beautifully grotesque GARGOYLs! This is as striking a piece of decor as you will ever run across. Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo. NY Brass and Cast with Extra Lenses and Case from NYU? Great example of an early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo. NY that I recently picked up at an estate sale. Still has a great look to it. Came in a nice wood framed case that the outside material is worn or coming off of. Case is still all intact, with carrying handle, hinges, and door. No key comes with the case. Serial number of 69870 is on the microscope. Site I looked up on the internet says this piece is from 1920 to 1921. The 3 turret microscope has a 10 mag lens at top and then the 10x. 44x and 95x lenses at the bottom. There is also a 6X and 5X mag lens for the top of the microscope in the case. The three lower lenses were in their metal cases still in the box originally. The mirror below that seems to be intact as well. I do not see where ... moreany of the lenses on the microscope are visibly cracked or missing the glass lens, certainly are dirty, so you would be buying this piece as is. But certainly no expert in microscopes, so you are buying as is. Ask any questions or request any pictures of items that are important to you before buying this piece. There is also some sort of metal attachment for the scope that is in its' own little case and marked Spencer Lens Co. that has a latch on it. What is really unique about this piece is the horizontal and vertical measuring device that is on the plate the glass slides lay on. The measuring device slide moves side to side with the screw that moves it. The one that moves the other scale top to bottom either needs adjustment or the screw is stripped. On the bottom. The piece is marked LV and then NYU, so presume this piece was once used at New York University. Mirror on bottom reflector piece is still there on both sides, but shows a lot of wear and tear. The brass components on the scope still look pretty good. There is some corrosion/rust on the cast metal part of the microscope. Most notably on the rear top of the base. 1777 NON-REGAL Spanish Two Reales, Bust and Shield type, in brass, very scarce!
1777 Non Regal Two Reales of the Bust and Shield type. Very Fine or so. Struck in brass with evidence of silvering visible on either side, a small area of weakness on the shield side, though everything else is sharp for the grade. Pleasing, nice golden brown, the surfaces hard and without any real mark or damage. This was originally silver plated when made, the silvering wearing off as the coin circulated, though with a shortage of small change it clearly continued to be used without problem. While the Shield type issues have not had quite the amount of research as the non-regal Bust and Pillar type of two reales, that is definitely changing and more collectors are looking at these today. This is a pleasing example of a neat date non-regal issue, and is a nice type piece. The non-regal coinage, NOT struck at any royal Spanish Mint, is one ... moreof the most popular fields in the larger area of colonial coinages. British halfpence, especially counterfeits, were THE most prevalent coinage in circulation in the American colonies, as well as through the first few decades of our existence as a country, and Spanish silver was by far the most common silver to be found as well! Without these issues– often crudely made and quite underweight– the American economy would not have been able to function, and it is nice that they are now getting the kind of attention from collectors that they deserve(as a perusal of any issue of The Colonial Newsletter or the C4 Newsletter will attest! A good three draw brass telescope(unsigned) with leather covered barrel. The polished instrument gives a good clear image when focused. The draw-tubes are dent free and all slide smoothly and firmly with no wobble. There is a dust filter in the eyepiece but no lens cap. The leather is free from damage and has all the original stitching is fine. There is plaited style Turks heads at both ends. Extended length:58cms: closed 20cms. The only fault is a little damp in the main lens which doesn't appear to affect the clear image. A decorative and useful instrument. Brass is in very good original condition. It has a metal base plate that looks to be removable. This panel was located to the right of the door and the(2) vertical repairs are where the beer taps were placed originally, and the little dents along the right side are from the servers!
