Northern Pike or Musky Head Mount
This is a mount we found at an estate sale. There are no markings on the wood board other than on the back side where it says Wigand(written in marker) I think it is a Northern Pike but I’m not positive. The mounting board is solid wood that is about ¾” thick. It is approximately 12” wide x 10 ½” high. The fish overall dimensions are 7 ½” wide x 6 ½” high. The head only(not counting what I will call the‘cape’ is 5” wide x 5 ½” high. It sticks out 7” from the board to the tip of the mouth. The condition is very good. Up for bid is a Eureka Northern Breeze screen tent. I have used it about 3 times totaling 10 nights and it is in excellent condition. I used it on motorcycle trips when I pulled my trailer. Northern Pike Skin Mount Fish Taxidermy Replica 30"
Here is a nice skin mount replica of a Northern Pike. This mount is about 5 years old and in very nice condition. The fish was/is about 30" long. BUT, with the bend in the fish mount, its about 28" long. The fins were finished with bends/curves in them for a more realistic appearance. Note) As seen in the photo; the lower tail tip is discolored/clear. It may have been repaired at one time? I think some paint or touch up would be an easy fix. There is a nice wire hangar on the back. So its ready to mount. Its a little dusty and due for a light cleaning. This is a nice mount overall, and would look great on the wall. Have a look at the pics, they show its condition and coloration/markings pretty good.

In later years the English aristocracy would nickname him“Crazy Pike. One-Shirt Pike, Dirty Pike, and“Moccasin Pike. Born into an old Westcountry family in Dorset in 1861. He was the youngest of seven children and lost both his parents by the time he was seven. Warburton Pike from an early age was fascinated by rugged outdoor life and distant lands and having been left a sizeable inheritance had already participated in hunts in Africa and Wyoming. In 1884. Lured by the stark emptiness ... moreof British Columbia, he purchased land on Saturna Island, where he was to reside on and off for the rest of his life. From 1884– 1889 he toughened himself and increased his skill as a wilderness traveler on hunting trips to the interior of British Columbia and other parts of the North. August 1889 found Pike embarking by canoe from Fort Resolution on what he called an“ordinary shooting expedition” north of Great Slave Lake. Where he hoped to see the musk-ox, study it, and get to know the Indians who hunted the ox every year. It was to turn into a sixteen month journey. Hunting with the Beaulieu clan– the biggest scoundrels I ever had to travel with” and Yellowknives. It was a trip of brutal weather. Near starvation and the company of half-breeds and Indians whose improvidence and untrustworthiness he despised but whose skills and powers of endurance he admired, and enjoyed competing with. It was also a landmark trip with Pike being the first of white sportsman- recreational travelers” to enter the interiors of the North. You are bidding on a very unusual and outstanding piece of Northern Plains Cree Indian/ Metis beadwork dating to c. 1870's. I have showed the piece to several museums in my area and all are agreed on the period of the piece but are baffled on exactly what it is. It has been suggested that it is possibly a childs glengarry style hat or cap. Some think it may be some type of shallow pouch or bag that may have had a specific purpose, but no one is really sure. The piece measures approx. 8 1/2" in length, about 3 1/2" in height and 2 1/4" wide at the bottom. Beadwork is done on deer hide. The beadwork is in great shape on the main panels, there is some bead loss along the open edge, overall condition is very good, it is lined with fur trade era cloth. Southeast of the famed Etowah Mound site, a 19 th century farmer found a trove of stone artifacts. On a recent trip throughout the region. I acquired this long-held family collection in a private sale. The axe is made from a hard, naturally color-striated stone. It has a massive groove that was pecked into a beautiful“U” shape. The artifact has seen a lot of use. Chips and dings surround the piece including a clear and defined plow cut—an intrusive groove made by a field plow when the stone was under-soil. This is a hefty and solid axe from an area filled with ancient mounds. Some Grooved Axe Factoids: Grooved axes made by pecking and grinding. Became ... moreimportant tools for girdling trees, splitting logs, breaking firewood, dug-out canoe making, general wood working, and other uses. The appearance of the grooved ax marks a time when people began cutting back the forests to perhaps give nut producing trees more light. This would have also increased the productivity of other wild plant foods. In addition. This is an original Yantra cloth from northern Thailand in the area once known as the Lanna Kingdom(meaning"Land of a Million Rice Fields" This region coincides with the present day region of Chiang Mai which is. In fact, still referred to as Lanna and many aspects of the culture as Lanna culture. The Yantra were produced most often in Buddhist temples and imbued with magical powers for protection, good luck, attracting lovers, warding off illness, etc. The cloth could be worn or placed in one's house, vehicle, or place of worship. Yantra designs incorporate numerology, astrology, and mystical symbolic characters to give power to the cloth. This particular Yantra is written in the now defunct Lanna language and is a 360 degree design meaning that there is no top or bottom and thus the power from the cloth emanates in all directions. ... moreThe cloth is made from very fine cotton and the design is in black ink. I cannot be sure of the age. Based on the wear and weave of the cotton and design and in comparison to the quality of the cheap yantras that are made in recent times, usually on paper, I think 50 to 75 years is a conservative estimate. It is quite dirty and stained and the ink has faded. The roundish brown shapes are stains of some sort, probably water stains, from when the cloth was folded up. Thus they appear as a sort of pattern, having bled through the various layers. There are also some small holes, the biggest being in the center(it is very obvious against the contrasting light-colored background in my photograph.but not very noticeablel if mounted on a similarly colored background or support) Despite these defects, or perhaps partly because of them, the cloth seems to have gained in beauty and mystique, maybe even"magic" Well, that's what I think at least.
