Vintage Despard switch, outlet, pilot light, w/Uniline plate, brown
Here's one you don't see every day! A classic Uniline wall plate for 3 Despard interchangeable devices. Complete with three devices ready to go. A 20 amp single-pole toggle switch, a neon pilot light, and a 15 amp grounded receptacle, all by Pass& Seymour. The wall plate was made by Arrow-Hart to the later classic Uniline style, and appears to be unused although there are a few scuffs in it from being stored without a wrapper. It's still a rich chocolatey brown color and looks pretty good. The switch, pilot light, and receptacle all appear to be unused, with no wear and no damage, but I'm calling them used just to be safe. They were all stored out of their original packaging, but there's little scuffing(the dome of the pilot light seems to have taken the brunt of it, with some scratches that don't show up in the ... morephoto) but all three parts look great and are the same brown color as the plate. The mounting bracket is unused. Despard interchangeable components were meant to provide options for multiple devices in small spaces. For instance. One could have three light switches in this plate, and later change them to a switch and two recepts, or whatever, and not need to expand to larger junction boxes. Popular from the 40's through to about the 1970's, Despard components are considered obsolete for new buildings, but are still sought after for vintage home restorations. This particular set is unusual, in that I've included a pilot light instead of a second switch or receptacle-the light would usually be wired up to show if a light in another room(say an attic or garage, or maybe an outside light) was on or off. They're pretty rare, and this one's unused!

Copper Bin Up for auction is a wonderful old copper bin with a heavy cast iron lid. The lid has a hook on the back that some utencil would have hung from and the discussions that have been had about what on earth this originally went to have been plentiful. Suggestions range from a coal shuttle where the hook would have held a hand broom. An ice insert from an old oak ice box where the hook would have been for a copper ice scoop. It was originally sold to me as an insert from a porters cart on a train where the table or crumb brush would have hung from the back and the cart would be pushed along the tables in the dining cart and the debris from the tables swept into the porters cart. Whatever it is, it is AWESOME! It measures 14" tall, 14" across and 13" deep.all measurements include the cast iron lip which is about 3/8's ... moreof an inch. I just love this piece! Obviously, some dents, rust on the cast iron, etc. I gave it a quick clean up with the old salt, flour and vinegar trick but you can polish to the degree of shine you desire! This was probably installed in the 1950s when our house was built. We are remodeling and it has to go. I have no idea what works or doesn't. Great restoration project. Rough dimensions are 5'2" long by 26" deep. Backsplash is about 43.5" high. You should know this weighs a lot(more than a refrigerator so bring many strong arms to pick up) Most of these that I have seen on eBay in the past are huge and most likely for commercial use where this seems rare in that it is perfect for a home. I took pictures of the unit as it sat installed and then after we tore out the cabinet and bar around it. The motor and air tank were in the cabinets next to the unit(see pics) There are tons of valves in the back which I have no idea are used for. It was hooked up to our water and sewer because it had a working sink and faucet. It has ... morea freezer compartment to keep hand scooped ice cream. 4 syrup pumps, 2 fountains, and a freezer with 6 original ice trays. I know the individual parts are probably worth more than the whole but its not worth it to me to go through the effort. I just want it out to make room for my remodel.
