Arrange is various series/parallel configurations fo create test loads. Be sure not to overload any one resistor: 35 Watts that's 400 volts or 86 mA per resistor. Resistors marked"Ohmite IBM3001659 4700 Ohm +/ 5% Date code 815( Resistors may have short leads soldered on. Resistor body width 1 inch. Length 4 3/4 inch and thickness approx 5/16 inch max. But it needs some TLC before it can be used as a reliable standard. Most of the resistance settings return reasonably close values(within 5% to the expected amount when read with a multimeter. However. Several positions, especially on the X1 and X10 bank, give readings that are off by a significant amount. On the 0. 1, and 2 settings, the indicated value is several times the expected value. We are reasonably certain that the cause of this is oxidation on the contacts. As working the knob rapidly back and forth will lower the indicated resistance closer to the expected values. However. There is always the possibility of unreliable components being the cause.
