Description:THE IRISH VICKERS HELMET WERE MADE BY THE BRITISH VICKERS FIRM AND MADE OF INFERIOR STEEL. The OUTSIDE WAS REPAINTED WHITE FOR CIVIL DEFNSE AFTER BRODIE HELMET ADOPTED FOR ARMY USE AS WERE MOST. THE LINER IS INTACT AS PER PICTURE 3. THE HELMET SHELL. LINER AND CHINSTRAP ARE INTACT. The Stamp of manufacturer liner is in the liner band. Stamp of Vickers(barely legible) is in the neck of the helmets heel as in picture 7. COULD BE CLEANED UP BY PURCHASER BUT IS AS IN THE PICTURES These Helmets were the result of the Free State of Ireland needing to equip their Army of 10.000 men with a suitable helmet after the hostilities of WW1 ending in 1918. The Irish had just gained their independence from England in the 1919-1921 War of Independence. Anti British feelings remained prevalent in that time period,which included further internal ... moreconflict with the Irish Civil War of 1922-23. When the Irish Free State Army of 10,000 men was formed, a uniform Helmet was required, but the British"Tommy" helmet was not favored. The German M16 design was settled upon. 10,021 species were manufactured. The Irish Army wanted to buy German surplus or even new manufacture, but were unable to because of trade restrictions placed on Germany after the Great War by the Allied Powers. Since the Treaty of Versailles prohibited Germany from exporting military equipment, the search for a manufacturer ended in Britain. The Irish government then contracted with Vickers Engineering, the UK firm, to produce a copy of the German M16. T hese Vickers helmets were a cheaply made light steel copy of the German M16. The VICKERS M27 remained from 1927 until 1939. After 1939 The British Broady helmet was adopted by the IRISH ARMY. The Vickers M27 helmets were originally pained dark bottle green when in use by the Irish Army. The M27 was relegated to civil defence use before WW2. The badges removed and most of the shells painted white. Thousands of these helmets were bulldozed into the ground as foundation filling for an Irish Army barracks

The unit has been tested for leaks and operation. The pump is a load sense unit, but can convert to pressure comp. It is a CCW rotation, has a 7/8- 13 spline shaft, a 2 bolt"B" mount, and has#16 pressure port, a#20 suction port, and a#10 case drain port.
