Vickers Mg WWII Tripod Gage!
Well looked through all the Vickers books I have; and nowhere is this Gage mentioned- I did not even know it was a gage until I noticed some imprinted information on several areas. The side of this tightening lever states.303 Maxi. MKIV- Top of gage reads DP twice; Back of gage reads a bunch of L's- So I think this is a gage for the left tripod leg, maximum thread size- for a.303 Vickers-This gage appears to be shopworn but as new! Flat rate shipping of $6.90 insured for this item! I have talked to some others that collect Vicker's tools and gages and some said there must have been gages but they did not survive- Others say that they have never seen any gages like this one! This is probably a one of a kind survivor! Got an e-mail from a pretty knowledgeable Vickers guy- He said if a part was modified into a gage It would have been ... moremarked DP for Drill purpose because at the time any non standard part or out of spec part was marked this way- This handle was modified by grinding the edges smooth and the stamping was applied to it; just the amount of stampings let you know it is not a standard part- So I am pretty sure it is described correctly because with the grinding on the edge there is no longer a forging mark in the steel- I have compared it with the handles on my Vickers tripod and a spare that i have but the other three handles are similar but not the same- This handle is definately made into a gage- it is useable on a tripod but the thread is at maximum for use!
