This is an old hourglass timer in a lucite type paperweight block. Inside is a corded rotary dial telephone. So maybe the point was to limit the duration of your calls. Measures about 3 1/4 inches high, 1 1/4 inches wide, and 3/4 inch thick. The surface has a hazy look to it, I guess from age. I have not attempted to clean it. Selling off all our collectibles and family hoarded stuff. Up for auction is an old Yale& Towne Door Time Clock. It is a safe or vault door timing device with triple movement. Overall excellent working condition. I do not have the keys. Winding key or door open key. The wind key is pretty standard, I used a clock key to test each movement. That is why the photos shows the pointer not on zero. When the clocks run down they stop on zero. Then there is a little keyhole, top left, to open the door. I believe this key would be pretty easy to acquire as well. It is very heavy, easily over 10 lbs. too much for my small scale to weigh.
