I am so glad I got my kid in Scouts! We have been wet, cold, muddy & miserable, but those are the outings everyone remembers & keeps talking about. It is a badge of honor to have survived one of those outings. Risk & adversity are essential to the human condition You are correct Tom (as usual!) the Human Race is going to hell in a handbasket.

Yup, we all goin' to hell... I suddenly feel nostalgia for those early camping trips as a young boy scout in southeast Alaska. In those far away days, kids learning from experience was still held to be not only an acceptable, but a vital form of education. In that particular place and time, we were practicing what would become important "life skills" for many of us. Skills that were hard-won through ... more sometimes bitter experience. I may be channeling my grandfather here, but dadgummit, kids today just aint got what it takes! Of course, the voice of reason would suggest that "what it takes" is entirely dependent on your environment. Speaking of which, I need to go blow the pollen off the solar panel before the computer shuts down.

I think the concept in play here is "Getting away from it all by taking it with you." Dog forbid the kids would be "uncomfortable" for even a second.

"Some of her clients have requested she recreate their child’s bedroom so they can feel completely at ease in their air-conditioned bunks." And all of this peace of mind can be yours for about a $1000 packing fee and a $10,000 charge for sleep away camp itself! #upperclassprobs looming outdoor apocalypse indeed.
