There are numerous other crystals that are round and formed in bunches. This radioactive copper uranium phosphate formed on just about every surface of this thumb sized sample. There is a white coating in some areas with the crystals on top of it. The Torbernite and Metatorbernite sparkles in bright light and are best seen under magnification. This sample is unusual is 3 ways: it is from an odd location. The rounded crystals and bunches are unique, and Torbernite only forms in a few areas in Mexico. 3 ANTIQUE MARBLES FROM A HISTORIC SITE IN MARYLAND
These three early(approximately 1875—1890) glass marbles were excavated from different sections of a land parcel(previously deeded from the 1700's Gumtree Plantation site) in Montgomery County Maryland during removal of an extremely antiquated septic system. The two clear and colored core glass marbles are rare; especially the smallest one. The black and white is an early glass agate. All three most likely imported from Germany. VERY HISTORIC BAR SHOT END DUG AT CASTINE. MAINE AMERICAN REVOLUTION BATTLE SITE JULY, 1779 In July and August. 1779 a combined American naval and land force lay siege to the British Fort George in present day Castine, Maine; which at that point in time was part of Massachusetts Bay. The Americans heavily outnumbered the British but their attack was poorly coordinated and they failed to break through into the fort. This gave time for the British to send several men of war ships to Penobscot Bay, trapping the American ships who, outgunned, fled upriver and were eventually scuttled or burned. The American besieging army abandoned their position and trudged back in defeat to their main bases in Massachusetts. This was a humiliating defeat for the Americans and led to court martial charges against the overall commander, General Saltonstall, as ... morewell as Colonel Paul Revere, of"Midnight Ride" fame. In this battle, Colonel Revere commanded American land artillery units besieging the fort. I purchased this bar shot end several years ago directly from the digger who found this bar shot end in the cliffs of Castine. Before the area was sealed off from any further digging. The bar shot end is about 3 1/2" in diameter and the location where the bar had entered the bar shot end, can still clearly be seen. Though this is definitely a dug artifact with a few dings that one would expect, it is in very nice condition and remains very impressive. 30 day return guarantee as long as the bar shot is returned in the same condition as sent. Mailing cost includes insurance and is based on domestic mailing; international mailing cost is based on destination. This will be an outstanding addition to a Rev War collection. Particularly given its known 1779 battlefield location.
