From a large collection of works we have acquired by William George Lewis(1882-1974) and Eileen Lewis. There is little on record about either artist except that W.G. Lewis was a professional illustrator known for his work for Tablet Magazine. Working mainly around the mid-20th century. It appears that Eileen was the daughter of W.G. inheriting her father’s talent– she continued to paint into the 1990s. Evidently from an artistic family, one painting by W.G. depicts his father sketching and reference is also made to his mother painting. W.G. and Eileen were both predominantly watercolour artists and they painted similar subjects in a similar style. Favouring ... morelandscapes. Both artists sketched in albums dedicated to a particular location, suggesting that they would tour the UK and paint on location. Capturing lakes and mountains in areas of outstanding beauty, W.G. and Eileen painted many scenes around Scotland, Wales and the Lake District. Eileen also painted in Cornwall, Somerset and the Peak District; W.G. painted in Yorkshire, Suffolk, Sussex, Dorset, Devon and also the Loire area of France. Some of the paintings are signed or monogrammed and many are inscribed, identifying the exact location of a scene. I do not know for sure what this is but I am thinking it is a WWII era army or military vintage gun scope or site sight. The brand is Nikko and the logo has what looks like Japanese wording with Nikko in what looks like a suitcase logo. The wording on the round side with the logo is 3 x 13(then degree sign) the logo No. 20942 then JES 00. When looking thru the eyepiece I can see the crosshairs and see out of it very good. There are numbers on it in one place from 0 to 90 by tens. The other place for numbers are from 0 to 30 by two's. The numbers on the top section are 0 with increments and then 50 and on top of that section is a pin like point. There is another point very sharp on the top. There is a slide section where it would fit into something and that widest area is 1 1/2" and small inside dimension on top is 1 1/8" to ... morewhere it makes the V and 3 3/8" long.
