The country of Cambodia- having just come out of the Khmer Rouge period- was still nearly completely shut off from the outside world. The directory is in great shape except for some yellowing. And has around 200 pages. It is printed exclusively in Khmer script.

A truly beautiful and elegant French naval officer's dagger from the Directory Period(1795-1799) Could have been with Napoleon and seen the Battle of the Nile(or. Later, Trafalgar) against Nelson or at the finding of the Rosetta Stone; the preceding is speculative but in the bounds of possibility. I purchased it from a specialist in European edged weapons about thirty years ago. I also once sent photos to Thomas Del Mar(Sotheby's associate in London) who confirmed that they thought it to be a Directory Period French naval dagger. In addition to the dating. The seller described as: French Ivorine(have to use that word to get the listing accepted) and gilt on the handle with brass scabbard. The length is approximately 17" The horse hair in the helmet is not original nor is the lining of the scabbard. Condition is as pictured and ... moreI'd say it's solid and excellent, especially considering that it's well over 200 years old. No maker's mark that I can see. Elegant floral motif etched on the blade. Sea monsters on the guard a la antique maps, classical helmeted figure. Unfouled anchor is, from what I've read, a sign that it predates Napoleon's coronation/establishment of the Empire. German naval daggers from World War I regularly fetch $2.000- $3,000. This much older, much rarer, much more elegant and more historically interesting dagger should certainly bring more than the German daggers but, as I now want to squander my resources on travel, will start this beautiful antique at considerably less. It is profusely illustrated with scenic views, architecture, ... moregreat hotel and resort photos, restaurant photos etc. + there is a lot of interesting immediate pre WW2 historical, travel and promotional info about the Rockies and the three states named on the cover. The ads are fabulous! There is a 2" tear(see zoomed scan) at the top edge of the cover; and a matching 2 inch tear at the top of the first leaf in the book(see zoomed scan for that also- the Horton's ad) Otherwise the book is in NEAR VERY GOOD CONDITION, tight and clean with only very minor wear(like a small dog-ear at the top for-edge corner of a few leaves) A really neat promo book from 70 years ago. NOTE: some of my scans may have what appear to be scratches and/or pencil scribbles but in actuality those are scratches on the glass bed of my scanner.
