BACKLIT 8mm / 16mm FILM / MOVIE VIEWER Make photos from motion picture films
click to enlarge. NOTE: ALL PHOTOS OF FILMS SHOWN ABOVE WERE SHOT WITH THIS DEVICE! Here's a device that. If you're a 16mm or 8mm film collector, you really have to have! This is a portable, hand-held viewer with HIGH QUALITY GLASS LENS that was originally developed for viewing 16mm microfilm. It contains a lens developed for viewing of microfilms with the naked eye, and is designed to be backlit so it supports use with a light box, sunlight or other light source. Back in the day, negative cutters and editors discovered that you could use these to easily look at 16mm films, and- thanks to the clamping design that won't harm film- they were used as a fast and effective way to locate specific frames of 16mm film. I've used one on occasion to take photos for my eBay listings of 16mm films. Every single one of the photos you see ... morein this listing from 16mm and 8mm films were in fact were shot using one of these units and a Canon digital Powershot A470 camera. So how does it work? Simply place the film into the slot in the viewer(slides easily in and out so you don't have to thread it through at the beginning and wind down- you can wind down and insert the film at any point) Point rear at a light source. And take a look at your film. Focus- it's easy because the lens is on threads and moves precisely where you need it. Want to take a photo? Just mate a camera to the viewing screen, and shoot. In my case I use a Powershot A470, which has a lens about the right diameter with the viewing window- almost any Canon Elph type camera would work. But you can also use any camera that has a similar lens, I think including an iPhone. I shoot using Macro mode and with the flash turned off of course, and zoom in to 4x for a full frame shot of 16mm film. Results are very good as you can see from my photos. The glass lens on this is very. Very powerful and believe me, you won't find a better way of shooting stills without some serious effort and cost. Item is used but in very good condition.
