This is the finest sterling basting/ gravy/ platter spoon that I have ever seen. It measures a huge 15-1/4" long and weighs a monumental 7.25 troy ounces. The bowl measures 4-1/2" long and 2-5/8" wide. The spoon is in excellent estate condition. And has a fine old patina. The spoon is in the Hanoverian pattern, with a slightly-ribbed upturned handle. The reverse of the handle features an elaborately engraved crest of a crowned man, as seen in the pictures. Georgian Period Scottish provincial sterling silver, fiddle pattern basting or serving spoon. It was made in 1821 by Alexander Cameron, of Dundee, Scotland. Cameron was a notable Scottish silversmith who worked from 1818 until circa 1840. The spoon bears Edinburgh hallmarks, because at that time Edinburgh was the only assay office authorized to strike the King's duty mark. This lovely basting spoon is in VERY GOOD REFURBISHED ANTIQUE CONDITION. When first acquired. The spoon had several serious condition issues which we opted to have repaired. Several dents in the spoon bowl were raised, although traces of these still remain. The finial ... moreof the spoon handle's front had several deep scratches and a damaged monogram which were removed by a professional buffing. There is a bit of waviness on the finial front, resulting from the monogram removal. The spoon measures 8-3/4" in length and weighs 61.8 grams. The back of the spoon handle is stamped with the silversmith's 2 part. Script hallmark, CAM ERON. The signature is followed by the castle mark of the Edinburgh assay office, the thistle Scotland sterling silver standard mark, the P date code for the year 1821, the bust portrait duty mark of King George III, and the 2-part name, Dun Dee, where Cameron worked. It's a 14" turkey/fowl dressing and basting spoon. Produced by the Melco Foundry and Manufacturing Company of Chicago. There is no date on the packaging anywhere but I'd bet it's from the 60's or 70's, like everything else I've been finding in boxes around here. The spoon is in fair condition but there are some spots where the plating on whatever metal it's made out of is wearing away. Definitely not perfect condition. The box it came in is also imperfect. Specifically the top of it which appears to be held on with tape. From the reign of George IV, hallmarked Edinburgh 1825, and bearing the makers mark AW, which stands for Andrew Wilkie, who was a Scottish silversmith who worked out of Dundee, and also later in the Edinburgh Assay Office. It weighs 70.4 grams, and is 9 inches in/22 centimetres in length. It is fully hallmarked with a nice clear set of hallmarks, bearing the date letter t for 1825, and assayed at the Edinburgh Assay Office. It is decorated on the handle in King's Pattern, with honeysuckle, and is in excellent condition, with nice patina, there is slight damage on the bowl, as can be seen from the pictures, but it is only a minor crease which does not detract from the overall beauty of the ... morepiece. Listed is a vintage VOLLRATH flat-sided. Heavy-duty basting spoon with a hard plastic black handle. The spoon measures about 13-1/2 inches in length. The bowl is about 2-1/4 inches wide by 3-1/3 inches long. The front metal is etched"STAINLESS STEEL VOLLRATH SHEBOYGAN, WIS. 6014-2" Overall used condition is very good. There is no rust, the markings are still very legible, surface scratches from storage, edge scratches from use and a few rough spots on the plastic handle.
