This auction is for a beautiful hand made sterling silver serving or basting spoon by the London firm of Peter. Ann& William Bateman. Made during the reign of King George III, it is circa 1800 to 1805 according to the hallmarks, it measures 12 inches long and weighs 3.7 oz(not troy, weighed on a postal scale) It is hand monogramed with a F, E& G, the hallmarks include the lion= sterling, the Jester=London, the E for the date of 1800-1805 and Profile for King George III, I took it to a jeweler to confirm it is indeed sterling(it is) and also to inquire whether to"repair" the small notch on the handle where a total idiot made a small knick or gouge to test the silver, they advised it could be repaired, but also advised to leave that decision to the discretion of the new owner, so I am) it is on the side of the handle, half ... moreway between the bowl and handle end, not obvious from a front view, regardless, this is a beautiful piece, from the Bateman family, relatives of Hester Bateman, useful both for serving or basting or simply to add to a collection of fine English sterling. It came to me from the estate of 1960s-70s antique dealers, packed away for many years, lightly polished to photograph for this auction, I leave the final polishing to you, it will clean up beautifully, it has no serious wear or damage to the bowl, no dings or dents, no repairs, it would polish nicely with very little effort and be a beautiful and useful addition to a Bateman family sterling collection. Gravy or stuffing spoon which was made in London. England in 1826 by the illustrious Georgian silversmith and spoonmaker, Thomas Dicks at his Greenhill Rents workshops in Smithfield. It is in the Fiddle pattern. It measures 11 7/8" long and is almost 2 1/4" across its bowl. This piece of cutlery weighs 117.9 grams- well over 3 3/4 troy oz. It is NOT engraved to the handle. It is in VERY GOOD condition for its age with a little less than the usual surface scratching than you'd expect for its age. Antique very large silver plated basting spoon which measures approx 29cm long and 5.5cm wide at the bowl. The spoon bears the Walker and Hall mark to the rear and a logo on the front which says"Star of Japan" we are not sure what this was. Possibly a ship or hotel. Ive found a reference to" Star of Japan" ship built in 1906, however i dont know if this has any connection. The spoon is in good used condition. This is a lovely and fine quality silver basting spoon made in the reign of King William IV in London 1834. The spoon has a large oval bowl and a long tapering handle with rounded finial. The top of the handle and stem has fine bright cut decoration and a superb starburst to the finial. The spoon is large. It is 2 inches/ 50 mm wide across the bowl and 11-3/4 inches/ 298 mm long. It weighs 97 grams. The underside of the spoon has clear hallmarks- lion passant. London mark, duty mark, letter t for 1834 and maker's mark WS for William Southey. The back of the spoon"thumb" looking piece is where the handle was originally attached with an extra"drop" for reinforcement. It is of Hanovarian design or"pattern. The spoon has been well-used and has some denting. It was not for almost another 80 years before deliberately hammered silver was in style. Made by John Power and hallmarked at Dublin in 1812. At over 12 ¼ Inches Long and almost 4 Ounces of Silver. This is a very imposing piece, of substantial gauge and heft. The spoon is in the classic Fiddle Pattern typically found in Later Georgian and Victorian Silver. With its classic design. It would integrate very well with any set of modern, vintage or, of course, Fiddle Pattern flatware. If you are looking for a typically Georgian Serving Spoon in good condition. I was unable to identify the hallmarks. It is an attractive and sturdy spoon. There are some scrape marks from use on this spoon and a 1" x 3/8" darker area in the bowl.
