Antique GSB Coffin Style Violin Case Only with A. Palmieri Bridge and Peg
Up for grabs is an antique GSB coffin style violin case ONLY. This measures about 31.5" wide. The case definitely shows its age! It has paint wear and a 7" split in the wood on the top of the case. It is missing the latches. But still has the hinges. The GSB symbol is stamped on the bottom of the case and on the metal bracket inside. The inside has torn paper lining and discoloration. This also includes a violin bridge marked: A. Palmieri and one peg(unmarked) This has a lot of wear, but still a great antique item for the violin collector or for decor! It is a peg style bowl that fits perfectly in the silverplate basket stand. The pink cased glass bowl is decorated with oak leaves and applied acorns. A classic Moser motif. The rim is crimped and folded. The basket measures 15" high to the top of the handle, 11" across at the widest point and 5 1/2" at the base. The bottom has the Reliance ... moreManufacturing Company quadruple plate trademark. The silver is in very good condition with no damage, repairs or plate loss noted. The bowl alone is 5 3/4" high(without the peg) and 7" across. The condition of the glass is very good but not without two significant flaws. The lower part of one acorn is missing at the bottom. In addition there is a chip on the underside of the rim. Fortunately neither problem is distracting but please see the enlarged photos to evaluate. But, I'm positive this is not a piece of production artwork. It has no numbers, and the paper is a heavier weight than normal production paper. It has the name GILLETT written in the upper right hand corner. He was the director for The Cactus Kid, it appears to be written in Walt Disney's hand, but, Phil Sears would have to authenticate it. Wonderful Antique 19th C Style Wooden Peg Rack Charming Primitive Old Paint
A superb reproduction example of a early 19th century carved wooden peg rack. Typical of Pennsylvania origin. 38 1/ 2" Wide 3 1/2" High Peg racks such as this were commonly used in country homes for the support of daily clothing. Chests of drawers, cupboards or other furnishings were more often only afforded by homes of stature, and as period households did not incorporate closets, racks such as this were a simple an economic solution to hang ones clothing from. As such, racks like this one were used in the interiors of homes, both in bedrooms, and near entrance ways. As you can see this piece is formed with a single row of hand carved wooden pegs.
