Here is a fantastic Vintage Hire's Root Beer dispenser to add to your collection! This dispenser was produced in the 1940's by the McKee Glass Co. of Jeanette PA for Hires. This is a very rare glass dispenser that any collector must have. When is the last time you saw one? The dispenser measures21.5" tall. 11" round. The ice insert measures 12.5" tall and 8" round. Overall condition of this dispenser is Good. The outer dispenser is in great shape. No chips or cracks. It has a raised letter fill line on both sides. The lid is in great shape with no chips or cracks only two small scratches from what I can see. The Ice insert is chipped along the rim and has about a 4" crack. Still structually sound and not at all noticeable when the piece is displayed. The base is in great shape. 1940-1950 Soda Fountain Shop Porcelain Containers & Heavy Brass Syrup Dispenser
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! Up for auction are two 1940-1950 era soda fountain ceramic syrup con tainers(both in mint cond ition) and a chocolate syrup dispenser. The tall porcelain container is a Lip pincott. But the smaller on e is a n Abingdon#916( stamped on the bottom) The small container had a metal lid that could be raised and syrup. Fruit, etc. was sc o oped out with a ladle. There are some si lver colored marks on the porcelain from contact w ith metal parts. B ut it is in exc ellent shape and clean in side. It measures about 7-1/2" tall. By 7-1/2" long( top portion- body of the container is only 6-1/2" long) By 4-1/8" deep(lid- body portion is 3-5/8" deep) The opening at the top is an oval that measures ~ 4-5/8" long, by 3" wide(in side measurements) On the front of t he Lip ... morepincot t container. It says, LIPPINCOTT PATENTS M ANUFACTURED BY THE PUFFER MFG. CO. BOSTON B-1. This one has several measurements. Beca use it is not uni form in size(see pictures) But is a total of 12-3/8" tall, by 7" wide at its wide st point. And 3-7/8" deep. The round opening at the top is 3" in diameter. The brass dispenser is in great working condition. But some of the chrome plating around t he handle has been worn off and the brass is showing through. The dispenser has"cho colate" on t he porcelain button. But it is faded. This dispenser does not fit either of the porcelain containers listed above. It is the right length for the Lippincott. Very attractive. Ca1910, Decorated Zinc Soda Fountain Syrup/ Soda Dispenser/ Cooler with contemporary decoration for Grape Smash. PLEASE NOTE- this is a wonderful, original turn of the 20th century Soda Fount Dispenser but the Grape Smash lettering and decoration is modern and although the Dispenser makes for a wonderful display piece all of the lettering and"grape" decoration has been added in the recent past. The off white paint and the pin striping on both the body of the Dispenser and on the matching Jug Cover IS original but the lettering and the"grape" decoration is modern. The original Dispenser/ Cooler itself measures approx. 13" in diameter at the base and 18" tall with the matching. Zinc Jug Cover in place. The Dispenser is composed of a heavy, thick walled zinc tub which would have been filled with ... moreice and water. Within the tub there is a heavy, ironstone container with text on the outer surface that reads in part"XX th Century Cooler" and is signed by the manufacturer Cordley& Hayes of New York City. There is a spigot attached to the front of the inner, stoneware syrup container which goes through the wall of the zinc tub and through which syrup could be dispensed. There are two zinc"collars" that fit around the mouth of the ironstone container and cover the tub. In this way the tub is well sealed and the interior acts as a fairly well insulated ice/ liquid Cooler. A jug of syrup or other liquid that was to be dispensed by this Soda Fountain Dispenser/ Cooler would be turned upside down in the mouth of the inner ironstone container. The separate zinc"Jug Cover" it looks somewhat like a small wastebasket but with a rounded bottom- top actually- to accommodate the bottom of the inverted jug) would be placed over the inverted jug of liquid further sealing the“cooler” as well as making for an attractive dispenser. I am unsure of the age; however the markings on the artwork shows“copyright 1919 by Schoenhofen Co. Chicago. The overall appearance of this piece is excellent for its age; however. Just as Congress was passing the 18th Amendment establishing Prohibition. When Prohibition officially went into affect on January 16, 1920, some breweries turned to making a nonalcoholic drink call Near Beer, while others were churning out ice cream. The Schoenhofen Edelweiss Brewing Company of Chicago turned to Green River. The soda was poured into old beer bottles and sold in the market. It was an immediate hit. The soft drink was so popular that Al Jolson recorded a song written about Green River. The Shoenhofen Brewery- The Brewery closed in(1950) By the end of Prohibition on December 5. 1933, Green River trailed only Coke in fountain sales throughout the Midwest. However, after Prohibition the brewery made Green River a second priority and sales dropped. In 1950 the brewery went broke and closed in 1950.
