Griswold Cast Iron Deep Fat Fryer with Basket– 1003- Cleaned and Seasoned This great Griswold Deep Fat Fryer has been cleaned and is ready to join your cooking staff the day it is received. It has a very slight wobble when sitting on a flat surface. I can slide the edge of a business card under one side and completely stabilize it. This pan was originally made sometime in the 1950’s. It is 7 ½” across and 5” deep. With the handle and front pour spout it is 12 ½” long. It has a wire bail that goes from side to side and it has no bends or kinks in it. This piece has a distraction on the outside bottom. Someone tried to scrape off carbon and build up with a flat edge of some sort and has scratches the iron. All they had to do was spray it with oven cleaner and seal it in a plastic bag for 12 hours and then wipe off the goo with a paper ... moretowel! The back of the pan is marked: Deep Fat Fryer Griswold Logo– a little over 2” in diameter 1003 The inside cooking surface has very minor area that is slightly raised and is probably original to this piece. It appears as the darker area near the center of the cooking surface. There are no chips. Cracks, breaks, rust, or repairs to the piece. There is the usual discoloration from years of use and age. I clean all of my cast iron back to the original gun metal gray casting or as close as I can. This way it has no residue or contaminants from previous use or storage. The new owner can use with confidence in their safety. I only season with three coats of solid vegetable shortening in the oven for about ten hours. This is why my cast iron does not appear black. You could perhaps say it has been restored as close as possible to its original condition. There is a possibility that some of what I refer to as shallow pin point pitting is actually original to the casting. I do no oil my cast iron so they show better for the pictures. I do not put my cast iron in a smoker to get it black or paint it black. I do not put varnish on the inside cooking surface to make it appear glass
