This is one of two auctions for a beautiful vintage silver plated champagne or wine cooler. Absolutely perfect condition- never used- just displayed. There are no scratches or dents and the silver plate just gleams. The maker is International Silver Company. Size is 10" tall and 10" from handle to handle. Both of these were grand champion prizes at a local charity horse show so each is engraved with the sponsor and show dated 1978 on one side. Vintage Sterling Silver Punch Bowl Trophy from the Philco Corp., 1970.32 grams
What became known as the Philco Corporation was founded in 1892 in Philadelphia. Pa. and became a part of American history. I can recall my refrigerator as a child in the 50's. And it was a Philco. Philco was a pioneer in battery. Radio, and tv production, and in the 1930's they expanded into air conditioning. Refrigerators, electric ranges, washers/dryers, phonographs, and even pioneered tv broadcasting. In 1926 they sold 600.000 radios, and grossed 34 million dollars, incredible for that time. This gorgeous sterling silver punch bowl President's Award trophy was awarded by Philco to their Los Angeles branch in 1955 for outstanding sales achievement. The large punch bowl weighs 1970.32 grams of sterling silver. And measures 13"w x 9.5"h x 7.5" at the base. It is in beautiful condition. Bearing the expected fine ... moresurface wear of a vintage piece having been displayed and admired. The maker's name mark on the bottom is partially worn. I can make out McDonald's M.something.Fair/Phila. Pa. It also bears the number 298. Sterling Silver, and Reproduction. I'm not certain what reproduction means for this piece, as the original owner was an executive with Philco. L.A. and was entrusted with its care. This unique trophy is a part of our American heritage. And will make a most interesting conversation piece. Many of us grew up with Philco radios. Which was presented to a M.M.Gibson for winning the Ladies Championship at the C.L.T.C in the 1936- 37 season. It was made by the silversmiths of James Fenton. And it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1936. This attractive little silver Trophy Cup will make an interesting addition to any antique silver collection. Or Tennis memorabilia collection. I t has a very pretty angular handle and a stepped tapering base.
