Set of 12 German porcelain open salt cellars - basket weave & flowers Efinware?
Up for auction are twelve-12! matched German basket weave open salts cellars. They are 2 1/2" wide.1 5/8" deep and 1 1/4" high. The basket weave bases are covered with applied pink roses and a delicate blue flower. The hand applied and colored decoration is only on one side and the two sides of the top rim. The style of decoration is similar to Elfinware. They are marked in red on the bottom with a border of circles and diamonds. In the center of three lines are the initials"oof" Beneath this is"Germany. I have not been able to identify this mark but there was a similar logo used by a Czech importing firm in the 1920's. Input is welcome. I have examined each of the salts and have found no cracks or chips. This is remarkable considering the delicacy of the work and their age.When I purchased them. It was made by Northwood Company in the early 1900s. It has what is called the Nutmeg coating for color. It is 7 3/8" in diameter and 1 1/2" tall. The piece is signed with the Northwood company logo on the bottom. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. Most of the glass we sell is over 100 years old and due to the process of glass making from that time period, there are flaws such as straw marks, bubbles, soda ash marks, tooling marks and other manufacturing defects, we try to mention any of these issues if we feel it takes away from the value or beauty of ... morethe piece. This is the Fostoria American Glass Handled Flared Basket which was manufactured for only a few short years 1979-1983 and was one of the last pieces of American Fostoria to be manufactured. The piece is in exceptional condition with no chips or cracks. The basket is Sidney Seligson's piece number 280 and is ranked a"5" in rarity although you do not see many of these available for sale. The piece is 9-1/2 inches height and 9-3/8 inches wide and 10-1/2 inches in length. The initials on the side of the handle are"RJ" which I am told are the initials of the person at the factory who made the piece. This piece is from my personal collection of American Fostoria. Fenton button basket (teal/green)
This is part of my grandmother's collection of Fenton. It is one of the smallest items of Fenton as a button basket. This basket is a teal/green color with a faceted base. It is large enough to see the Fenton stamp on the bottom as well as the handler hallmark on the sides for Bob Buchanan. It is approximately 4.5" tall from the base to the top of the handle. I am not certain as to what collection this is out of but it appears to be a sea mist green which was retired by Fenton in the late 90s. The ornate fretwork includes acanthus leaves in the design. This lovely item is 75mm(approximately 3 inches) in diameter and stands 100mm(approximately 4 inches) high. 150mm(approximately 6 inches) to the top of the handle. Which depicts a spaniel(I think) dog holding a basket of flowers in its mouth. He is standing outside with evergreen trees in the backgtound, and each corner has a cluster of flowers. It has been completed in wool on punched paper. I has been housed in a wonderful period frame with the original wavy glass intact. The piece measures about 24 1/2" long and 20 1/2" tall including the frame. It is in nice antique condition with no wool thread loss, some brown areas on the punched paper, and a bit of expected wear to the frame. The backing is new. Please look carefully at the pictures for a better idea of condition, and if you would like additional photos, please e-mail me, and I'll do my best to provide them. I do apologize for the reflection from the glass in the pictures. This is a sweet coin silver teaspoon in the rare"Basket of Flowers" pattern. Which was made by Augustus Mathey. Mathey was a New York City silversmith who commenced working circa 1826. The spoon measures a hair shy of 6" long and weighs.65 troy ounces. The front of the handle is engraved, DEH" in beautiful period script. The bowl is worn, as seen in the photos. Wonderful old woven basket. I believe HOPI but not sure. Tiny tight woven checkered pattern throughout basket. Covered in Turquoise beads. Lid still attached. Could use a better cleaning. A little dry but no major damage. 4 inches in diameter and approximately 2 1/4 inches tall. A really cool little basket.

This is for a great Meridan silver plated bride's basket with a very ornate handle It measures 4" deep X 10-3/4" diameter& 9" tall with handl e up Th e bowl of this basket has w hat called"a butler's finish" to give it dull finish, why? I have no idea There is a heavy scratch on the surface of the bowl There are 2 large areas of plate loss on the underneath of this basket. They do not appear to be caused by an outside circumstance, more likely the silver plate was not applied thick enough which allowed it to be removed during a normal polishing. Even with this loss, this is a beautiful basket as this does not show from a top or side view.
