Lenses are pretty good some light scratches. I tried to get good pics but they're pretty clear.Left eye is scratched the worst right across center but doesnt obstruct view much. Original rubber band disintegrated when I picked them up but thats a very minor thing to replace, easy to find(swimming goggles ect. For sale is a wonderful and working condition American Optical Company phoroptor eye medical device. We bought this from an estate sale of a former eye doctor. It was a looked at by a current eye doctor at the sale and was said to be in fine beautiful working order. Therefore we sell this piece in working condition and guarantee it. It was made by American Optical Company out of Buffalo New York and is model 11320 It is in a creamy lime green color which is one of the harder colors to get in this particular model. The overall condition of this piece appears to be excellent. There is some normal wear paint loss from dings and scrapes on the bottom. Please see detailed pictures for an up close view of this area. I have cleaned this item up but I'm not a professional. All controls move easily except the prism measurer which is tight. Optics look good. Ink pad for lens marker missing. Included bulb lights up. Mild corrosion on some of the shiny surfaces but looks like it will clean up well. Some inconspicuous tool marks. Metal ring on front of lens holder has been replace by an O-ring. Manual included. This model dates back to 1938. I don't know the provenance of this unit. Having bought it used several years ago. Serial number W19897. Payment must be made within 3 days of close of auction. Whether you are adding to an early industrial era collection or making a Steampunk fashion statement. these could be for you. A real nice pair of welding or motorcycle glasses. The frame is nickel plated and signed AO. It measures about 1/4" deep. There are holes for side shields and could be found somewhere if needed. Frankly if you wear them as sunglasses you don't want your peripheral vision blocked. The green tint lenses are both in great shape.no scratches to deal with. There is a tiny 1.7 etched on each lens to I guess denote strength or maybe a part# Each lens has a nice beveled edge on the outside. This is really exceptional rare item. machinist glasses manufactured around 1930. That's when American Optical took over Merry Optical. Comes with green case, I don't know if they were military issue or not. On the lenses it appears to have a mark an S within an O(see Pics) on the front brow piece is says American Protexwe/No. 1 Merry Optical Co. On the top side of the nose bridge is a letter F. That i was unable to photograph. The item appears as possibly silver plating, I know they were made with silver and other metal alloys but not certain of this with this item. There is no rust, simply tarnish from the age.
