Here it is, 68 years later, and after a little restoration, this one’s looking and playing excellent with the same speaker in had in the Truman administration. Photos will represent this shiny Bakelite set well, and one shows it in a dimly lit room. Pilot light on this model actually rotates around the dial, illuminating the dial pointer next to the station frequency. Controls consist of simple Volume and Tuning, radio has been recently professionally serviced, ready for years of service. CONDITION. SERVICING, PERFORMANCE: Cabinet displays beautifully as seen in photos. And there’s a swirling in the Bakelite that can be seen in stronger lighting. There ... morewas a thin hairline crack on the bottom side, well out of normal viewing that was epoxy reinforced on the cabinet interior. The repair line is invisible from the outside, and will not be an issue. There are a few faint scratches from normal handling over the decades, and overall, cosmetics look excellent. Chrome trimmed round dial scale has excellent graphics that are nicely illuminated. Knobs look exc, and the radio has been thoroughtly gone through. Tuner and dial mechanics were lubed, and all the typical checks were performed for any out of tolerance components or defective wiring. Tube pins and sockets were thoroughly cleaned to maintain contact, and the old wax/foil capacitors and electrolytic filters were replaced, and dial cord checked. Reception is now excellent without hum or distortion across the AM band with very listenable sound from the orig speaker. It easily picks up our AM stations with its loop antenna without any need for an external arial. Power cord was replaced with a safe pliable one, knobs are correct, orig fasteners are present, and the metal model tag reading Gilfillan Bros.
